once youve had laser you will never return to ink jet

I bought this printer from IJT direct , it was on an offer where if you bought two packs of toner cartridges you got the printer free, including delivery this cost £133.90 , this was on offer in February , and seems to still be available through their web site ( http://www.ijtdirect.co.uk/?sct=dell1320cn)

Up until I bought this printer I used various different inkjet printers and am really glad that I changed to the laser printer , as a post graduate student I have to print off a lot of materials , that when using an ink jet became very expensive 3 months later and printing 671 color A4 pages and 318 Black and White A4 pages I still have not needed to replace any of the cartridges

The set up of this printer can be very tricky it comes with a set up DVD which needs to be followed and will run on your lap top or PC drive if you have never set up a printer like this the you really need to follow the steps as there is a hairaising monent where you have to remove the imaging unit, remove some tapes, and replace the unit. It is possible to damage the transfer belt at this stage so be careful

The printer is quite heavy and weighs it at 18kg out of the box , and 21kg in the box so may require more than one person to set up the other dimensions are as follows W 42.2cm , H 40cm D 37.8 cm , size wise its a whole lot bigger than your average ink jet but fits on my desk at home just fine

I have used all sorts of differing papers from Tesco value paper to other papers which weigh 90gsm and found the print quality to be very good on all of the paper

I have also printed photos on this printer and this is where it comes into its own , the quality is near photo lab quality and a lot cheeper also

Setting up the network is relatively easy , the printer comes with a usb and ethernet cable , if you plug this into your router you then have a wireless printer

The paper tray holds about 250 sheets of paper this is a lot more than a normal inkjet printer and no need to worry about running out of paper when printing large documents , there is also a front feed slot which makes envelope printing a whole lot easier

It is a very quick printer and prints 16 monochrome pages per minute this reduces to 12 pages when printing color

It comes with a standard memory of 64mb and a rom memory of 8mb again this affects the size of the document held in the buffer and the time taken to print

I like this printer for a number of reasons
1/ Its cheeper to run than an inkjet
2/ Its quicker than an ink jet
3/ The print quality is significantly better both on photos and documents
4/Its easy to set up wireless printing
5/its easier to print double sides

There are lots of printing options which range from single page to multi page and even making booklets , when printing it is also a whole lot quieter than an inkjet printer

There is a user interface that also can be installed from the disk which shows how much ink has been used , and also allows you to print off the reports to monitor just what has been printed

Cartridges have been quoted at some really daft prices for this machine from £59.99 on Amazon but again the equivalent non branded cartridge is available from IJT for 55.88 but can be bought separately at £13.95 which to me is a more sensible idea as you only replace the ones you need , of course if you take up the same offer as I did then you are all ready two sets of toner cartridges to the better
Ive taken off one blob for variety of features as it donst have a in built fax but hey we cant have every thing !
