Dell Laser Printer 2330d
Advantages: 33ppm, 1200 x 1200 dpi, warm up technology, duplexing,, large paper drawer
Disadvantages: Replacement toner pricey, fan kicks in sometimes making it noisy
I would firstly like to point out that this review is of my work printer, however I use this printer 10 times more than my home one so I can review it knowing that I still know plenty about it!
This printer is big and bulky and takes lots of room on a desk, in fact so much so that it has its very own desk all of its own purely because it was too bulky to sit comfortably on my desk, which is full enough with two quite large monitors! It may be big and bulky but it stands the test of time and can happily cope with large volumes of printing in one go. We have just written to 3,000 of our employees and this trusty little machine did the 4 page letter happily on its own.
With promises of print speeds of up to 33 pages per minute, I would say it's not far off. I haven't actually timed it, but I can print large volumes of documents quickly and reliably and haven't ever suffered from a paper jam.
The Dell prints to a professional standard and has a 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution which makes the presentation flawless. We don't really print graphics as such however we print lots of 'NHS' signs in the corners of letters and they print without flaw.
Warm up Technology:
This freaks me out slightly sometimes! I have had to nip into the office on weekends and on the odd occasion exceptionally early in the morning, and sometimes come in (in a really old creepy building anyway!), to hear the printer wurring as if it is getting ready to print. It makes the same noise when it prints for the same time after the sleep mode (energy saving) has kicked in and will take as little as 7 seconds to warm itself up and begin printing. This is impressive and I have known it take much longer for similar printers. This allows the printer to be efficient but productive at the same time.
This alerts you to low toner, paper jam (never had one) and an empty paper tray. You can also set up to receive emails alerting you to low toner through the Dell Toner Management System, but we just use our legs and our eyes ; )
Duplexing (two sided printing is available), which helps minimise paper waste.
Large paper drawer capacity which can be added on to expand from 300 to 850.
Technical assistance available but not something we have needed.
Standard 1-Year Limited Hardware Warranty and 1-year Next Business Day Advanced onsite Service.
Price: £135 inclusive of VAT. This to me, is a brilliant price for a product which provides such a professional finish, however you will be stung on the Toners with these costing between £65 and £80. Each toner should print approximately 2,000 sheets, however after using this Dell for a year or two we have come to realise that if you take the toner out, hold it by its handles and give it a bit of a shake, it will easily last another 500 / 600 sheets. I would suggest opting for the Dell toner as opposed to a cheaper alternative as this would cancel the warranty, but also the Dell toners support the low toner warnings.
A brilliant printer which is reliable, quick and provides printing to a professional standard.
