Printing should be quiet, but it isn't - it isn't as noisy as any inkjet but seems to be the loudest laser I have heard. Still, you could be on the phone while this prints, that would be no problem. Having recently bought one of these, I can say this is a nice budget printer. This coming from someone who doesn't normally recomend HP even though I work in the trade of printers. The item does seem a bit large as the paper tray actually sticks out the back and you cannot push this right up to the wall. The ports are mainly on the side, so are easy to access but there is no printer cable in the box (why do they do that?). Printing should be quiet, but it isn't - it isn't as noisy as any inkjet but seems to be the loudest laser I have heard. Still, you could be on the phone while this prints, that would be no problem.
