Advantages: quick, duplex, colour, networkable, high capacity, quiet
Disadvantages: an additional tray is pricy
This is an excellent printer.
This printer is not designed for big production jobs thats what the 4700 printer is for (usage 100K pages a month at £1500)
This printer is designed or standard office use where you are printing maybe a 100 page docuemnt, or 10page document or the odd page here and there. It is designed for 10-20 users being able to those quick print outs in good quality and in colour.
600x600 is never the best quality, ut it is good quality for those normal office communications or home communications. for theose print outs you need in colour at a low price of around £200.
Even better is it has a built in duplex unit, this means the papergoes out then goes back in to be printed on the other side, the great advantage of this is you can half the paper you use on printing as both sides get used without you having to put thepaper back in. Although agin be aware if you do 10,000 prints it will not handle that well, it is desigend for around 30,000 a month thats 1000 a day on average, afterall the tray only holds 250 unless you buy an additional tray. If you need a printer for a huge quantity of print outs you need one with a dedicated duplex unit, which is an additional tray causing more footspace needed and a bigger height.
The printer plugs straight into the network and is a sinch to install allowing all computers to print to it, wihtout the need to have PC on and printer share.
I have had this printer 3 years now and I have had about 4 jams in it, if that. Most Jams are caused by the paper being slightly crinkly or bent corners (doing IT technician roles jams are caused by the rollers looing grip i.e. the printer working too hard for years, or by bad paper being put back in, paper is coated with a fine powder, if its gone through once its fine, generally going through again can cause errors)
My main job now is a teacher and I find I work hard planning, can;t be bothered with photocopying at school so I print out the booklets and work at home, and when producing 10 page booklets for a class for 30 this is so simple and so cheap, at £50 for a black cartridge to do 3000 pages of top quality work i find i replace black about once every 4 months and the colours 3 times every 2 years.
It handles all sizes of paper well. I had it do A4 and A5 print outs not propblem, plus a small custom size of 10cmx10cm for wedding invitations, again not a single issue.
Only thing to be aware of is you need to tell it what paper type your using, i.e. if you put card in and it thinks its paper it will smudge, because not enough time has gone fr the ink to fuse to the paper, but if you tell it your doing card it slows the print down thus it comes out perfect.
If you are doing a lot of printouts on it or a lot of users are using it my recommendation would be to add more RAM afterall thats what used to control what is to be printed.
Again this is an excellent printer for normal business use, i have put it into clients office use for normal use and they have no problems, I use it often each day, maybe 500 pages a week over the last month (nd its a few years old now) not a single problem.
I rate it a 5out of 5 for what it is built to do, it is tops of the low budget, entry level laser colour printers. It will never be any good for a production quality machine.
Summary: Fantastic printer for a fantastic price
