Advantages: Quick Printing, Clear Text
Disadvantages: Price
I?ve been using the HP LaserJet 1200 mono (not colour) printer at work for a while now, so I thought I would attempt to write a review on it and tell you all what a great reliable little model this actually is, although a little expensive but I?ll get to that later. From memory it was, as most printers are these days fairly easy to set up, even someone that?s techno phobic could install this fairly easily within a few minutes (5 at the very most), of course with the little CD and Wizard prompting you along the way. Following installation, it prompts you to print a test page enabling you to ensure all is working as it should be and I?m pleased to say it was, the thing I noticed was how quick it was in comparison with the model before (that was incidentally an antique!), as I had just completed some paperwork earlier that morning, I decided to give it a fair old run and print off some paperwork (70 pages) I had completed earlier that morning, so I loaded the printer tray with some A4 paper and then sent all 70 documents to printer, I was impressed, it was complete within around 5 minutes (15 pages per minute) and the quality was superb, very clear but I must stress at this point the quality of the paper is very important as in the past I have used some cheap paper when we have ran out and the quality was not so impressive, tending to blur slightly in places. The best thing I have found about the printer is there is hardly any noise, in fact you would hardly be aware there was a printer in the office, I mean the last thing you want when you are on the telephone is the awful squeaking noises that some printers can make when you are trying to conduct a serious conversation (as if). If you find your office photocopier is a bit of a walk away, then don?t worry cause this little package will also give you the ability to photocopy pages, simply feed into tray and press the copy button and fairly quickly you?ll be in possession of a photoco
py, so it?s not just a pretty face you see, it?s office friendly. It comes complete with everything needed to get you started, a user manual, USB cable, HP Software (includes interactive users manual, printing suggestions, address to purchase ink cartridges and support), also included was of course a black ink printer cartridge ? which would normally set you back around £40, pricey I know but one cartridge does last you a good while or to make it easier around 2,500 pages. For all it?s actually a personal printer, it does seem to weigh more than the average ? at a guess I would say around 3.5-4 kgs, which in comparison with say my little Compaq IJ300 at home is fairly hefty. Here comes the painful bit, it will set you back somewhere in the region of £300, but if you can afford and need something that will print you good quality documents in a hurry without bringing in the ceiling, then this is worth looking at. As I said we have been using this for almost a year now and even though it does tend to get heavily used, probably 50-250 pages per day, it?s proved pretty reliable and as yet we have had no problems with it (touch wood). - 13/04/04 I've got a HP 'Deskjet' ink printer and I've been very impressed with it- despite using ink it's still very quiet, as you said the Laserjet was, and very reliable. After the constant problems and jams of the last printer, I'll make sure to use HP ones from now on! |
