Let's face it, buying a mono-chrome laser printer is not an exciting activity! But buying a bad one causes all sorts of hassle. I wanted a reliable printer that would work with ALL of my computers with minimum fuss. I have Macs, Linux machines and standard PCs. I wanted decent quality output and duplex functionality. I also wanted a built in network printer server. I also required that the printer had drivers freely available for the operating systems I use (OSX, Linux, Windows XP, Windows7)

The HP 1320n unit (this model has the network printer server) from the HP Laserjet 1320 series provided the duplex and printer server, together with the Postscript emulation that I wanted. I have owned this printer for several years (at least 3; maybe 5) and can say that I am still delighted with it.

I am pleased with the print quality, that it will use generic consumables (toner) without making a fuss. It is reliable, hardly ever jamming, even during long print runs. I print 1000 sheets a month on average, so it has to work hard for me.

If it got stolen, I'd buy another one!
