Advantages: Quality of print, Fast response, Duplexer feature

Disadvantages: None really!

The HP Laserjet 2200d printer is another of HP?s Laserjet series that is aimed at providing quality black and white laser printing, to an office environment.

We have one of these printers running in the office and over the last year it has provided a reliable and cost effective performance.

This printer was purchased for £389 I believe, but the price will depend very much on which supplier you choose.

Specifications
This printer will provide 19 pages per minute performance on letter size paper and 18 pages per minute on A4 size paper.

This is a black and white only laser printer and will operate at resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. The Hewlett Packard REt technology onboard this printer also helps to enhance images to make them as sharp as possible.

The printer comes supplied with 8 MB of onboard memory and 2 DIMM slots are provided for this memory to be upgraded, if the user wishes to do so.

The printer has parallel, Fast Infrared and USB connections available, and 1 Enhanced Input Output (EIO) slot for connecting to a network.

There are two paper trays fitted, Tray 1 is a fold out paper feed type tray that can hold up to 100 pages. Tray 2 is a slide out lower tray that can hold a maximum of 250 pages.

This printer also features a built-in duplexer feature which allows automatic printing on both sides of the paper.

Of course last but not least, the colour which is, oh dear, yep you?ve guessed it?beige!

Package contents
This 2200d printer comes packaged with the following items:

A toner cartridge, a power cord, a CD that holds the software drivers and a ?Getting Started Guide? which gives you all the information you?ll need to get the printer set up. Additional information on setup is also provided by a guide provided on the CD.

In Use
Setting this printer up is pretty straight forward. After connected the power cord and a paralle
l printer cable, you will need to then install the software drivers from the CD onto a computer or a server. The installation is fairly simple on a stand alone PC, although the process is a little more involved when setting up the drivers on a server computer!

Once the computer has recognised the drivers and has connected to the printer, you are ready to begin printing.

The warm up time for this printer is very fast. It is ready to accept print jobs after only about 30 seconds of setting itself up. This is most helpful when working in a busy office setting!

Once a print job has been sent to the printer, the response rate from the request is very quick. The onboard memory of 8MB will be sufficient to handle most print requests and even on large Word documents with 50 pages plus, the printer deals with the request without problems. The only time when the printer is a little bit slower is when dealing with large graphics, as these print jobs will take a lot of processor power to deal with.

The Duplexer feature on this printer is a handy addition. This allows you to print images on both sides of the paper. You can specify how the duplexer feature works by using a menu available on the printer driver options. Once set, the printer will then quickly process the command and produce the print on either side of the paper. I like this feature as it gives your documents a much more professional look!

Print quality on this printer is impressive, as you expect from a Hewlett Packard printer that has a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. The images are crisp and sharp on the page, and text is produced well, with no blurring or blemishes on the fonts. Add to this HP?s REt technology for rendering sharper graphics and you have an impressive printer package that will produce high quality black and white office documents.

In terms of reliability, this printer has been running in a department for just over a year without any tec
hnical problems. The only consumable item that has been needed to swap out is the toner cartridge, and as usual at this stage I?ll have my moan about the expense of these items! At nearly £90 per HP toner these aren?t cheap!!

Conclusion
I would not hesitate to recommend this printer to anyone who needs a high quality printer that can work reliably in a busy office environment. The page per minute speed and the response to print requests are both impressive. The addition of the Duplexer feature to allow printing on both sides of the paper also adds to the printer?s usefulness.

On top of this, the printer should operate reliably for many years, so it represents good value for money.

Thanks for reading!

I've just ordered the HP PSC 1350 for home use. I know it's not quite on the same scale but I hope it's as good as this one!
