      Great robust printer

I got the Z4050 TN to print off endless amounts of documents for work. Having the machine for over 2 years I am delighted to report that the printer is still running as good as ever.

It is a bit of a lump of a machine which I suppose it has to be due to the amount it is able to print. I remember on one day I got it to print over 2000 copies I needed.

I did accidently drop the printer off my desk and it still works fine (so it's very robust)

It comes in a sort of white / beige colour. It has got darker the longer I have had it as it is impossible to clean off scuffs and marks. Saying that I wouldn't by this for its looks as it is pretty ugly.

One moan I would have with the machine was getting it up and running on a network. I found the process confusing (although I'm not particularly techy!)

I think the ink lasts an average time. But i don't have alot to compare this too.

Printing time only takes a few seconds from when i click print.

All in all this is a great reliable printer that just keeps on printing.

Hewlett-Packard offers a network laser printer with an expandable design to meet both general office and advanced business printing needs.

The LaserJet 4050TN monochrome printer is ready to serve mid-sized workgroups with its 17 ppm speed, 16MB RAM and installed fast Ethernet print server. Its 8.5 x 14-inch print size, 65,000 page duty cycle, and 600-page input capacity make it a desirable addition to a busy office. And the expanded Control Panel Help feature allows users to troubleshoot print interrupts right at the printer. The LaserJet 4050TN produces good-looking prints in a hurry. This printer uses Resolution Enhancement technology (REt) and an UltraPrecise toner cartridge for sharp monochrome prints suitable for corporate presentations. The instant-on ceramic fuser gets the first page out in less than 15 seconds, from a warm or cold start. Upgrade with the optional 2GB hard drive and store repeat print jobs, forms, fonts and signatures. The printer holds 600 sheets of paper at the ready in one 100-sheet multipurpose tray and two 250-sheet trays. Print on a variety of media including transparencies, specialty papers, envelopes and labels, from 3 x 5 inches to legal size. Available paper handling options include an auto-duplexer, large capacity trays and envelope feeder for future expansion. The LaserJet 4050TN has both a bi-directional parallel port and RS-232 serial interface. The Fast Infrared Connect adapter allows for walk-up, cable-free printing from laptops, PDAs or other infrared-capable devices. The fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX print server supports all major network operating systems including OS/2 Warp and UNIX. One open EIO slot allows network connectivity for other optional HP JetDirect internal print servers for Ethernet, LocalTalk and TokenRing networks. The 4050TN supports HP PCL 6, PCL 5e and PostScript Level 2 emulation, with 110 TrueType scalable typefaces. It automatically switches between languages and ports, and supports a free Web JetAdmin printer management software download from HP's site. It comes with print drivers for Windows 3.1/95/98, Windows NT 3.51/4.0, OS/2, MS-DOS, UNIX and Macintosh 7.1.
