I can't comment on why this printer was purchased, I only know I am glad it was. Originally it was brought from new by my predecessor and now it belongs to the staff in my office.
I can't praise this printer enough, after all this time the print quality is still perfect and the only issue we have ever had was the fuser unit was damaged. This cost £20 to replace and the printer is as good as new.
It is a black and white, laserjet printer. We also have an extra feed tray that is attached to the bottom that holds around 500 sheets of paper. There is also a network port which makes it a perfect addition to any office, assign the printer an IP address, plug it into your network and install the driver to your computer and you are away.
It is that simple to setup!
Like I have said above, we have replaced the fuser unit but apart from that there is very little that needs maintaining. The printer does require a maintenance kit which are quite expensive (£100+), normally more than a new printer so my rule of thumb is when the maintenance kit is required, we purchase a new printer and sell the old on an auction site. In the two years that I have been using this printer, we haven't had to get a maintenance kit for the printer which is astonishing!
I believe we pay around £50 - £60 for a toner that lasts for 2 months and prints around 10000 pages in that time, so it gets alot of use.
I have been saying for 2 years that when this printer packs in I won't be replacing it, I will be getting a new one and here I am 2 years later, saying exactly the same thing.
One thing is for sure though, when I do purchase a new printer for my office, it will be a HP.
