Advantages: Reliable, fast, solid printer drivers
Disadvantages: Small LCD display, toner not the best designed
This printer was ordered as a replacement for one at work, and so far I have been impressed with it. 2055dn has a dedicated network port (unlike the 2055d model) which means there is no need to have a print spooler.
Although this printer targets itself as a relatively simple printer, I would have to say the menu navigation leaves a lot to be desired. The small LCD display is the culprit -> when manually setting up a static IP address, each 16-bit is entered in seperately, such as IP1: 255, IP2:255, IP3:128, IP4:27, rather than just 255.255.128.27. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance none the less.
Once set up and the printer drivers were installed on the server, this printer has not had any spooling errors, nor any paper jams. I was not a fan of changing it's toner however, as on the left of the toner there is a metal spindle that is on a ball sproket which moves around and is in the open - I would have though it would be best to design a plastic sheathing around it, as it does look weird and toner does not smoothly load in to the printer like other models do.
The quality of the printer is great though, and it does actually do 33ppm. It gets slightly hot after constant use, but then so do all laser printers.
I have always relied on HP printers because of their reliability, and this printer does not buck the trend. A few odd design choices only blemish what is otherwise a very good small office printer.
Summary: Another solid printer from HP for the small office.
