Advantages: Great quality prints, Fast printing
Disadvantages: Expensive toners
Lexmark may not be as well know as Hewlett Packard in the office world for their printers but I cannot see why not. I have been working with these units for sometime now and they beat the competition hands down. Why? Well, many reasons but first, let me describe one to you. The Lexmark Optra T610/620 series Laser Printer is not something you are going to have at home. The main reasons being the sheer size of the things and the cost of buying one. However it is a powerful, high performance Printer which is both quiet and quick to print. It can handle you document management requirements much better than many of its competitiors and at a fairly reasonable business cost. They are both compatible and upgradable to keep up with the modern business environment which is constantly evolving. No more changing your printer every couple of years. These beasts are ahead of their time in looks, performance and compatibility. Add to this their ability to cope with 30pages per minute of printing and an unrivalled quality of print and you have a great printer to handle the office for under £500!!! Technolgies involved are actually better than many older PCs! It comes with a 300Mhz processor to cope with the demands the computer or network inflicts and this helps relieving some of the computing burden on your own PC or network! A Printer that can think for itself! While the standard printer comes with one paper "bin" to store blank paper in, these can be multi stacked and configured to take up to 2 additional "bins". This allows company headed paper, blank and even printed forms to be stored in different drawers and be called upon when needed. Al lthe user has to do is select the relevant paper tray when printing and the printer does the rest! you can still use the manual feed facility which is hidden on the front behind a larg flap. This acts as both a paper holder/support and a feeder cover all in one.
Maintenance? Well, Ive not seen one of these go wrong in the last few years of using them and they tend to require minimal input to keep them going. The software drivers that come with the product allow for most diagnostics and tend to be the issue when one occurs. The only maintenance expected it Toner cartridge replacement. Ouch. These are going to set you back by some money! Expect to pay upwards of £250 for a high yield cartridge. However, these will easily push out 30,000 prints and still have ink left! There is a fully programmable menu system that show how many people have printed, etc and this is great for keeping track of printers! Overall, its a great printer whitch is perhaps too expensive to run in cartriges for some! However, it is a great addition to the office.
