Advantages: Very low cost and generally good print quality
Disadvantages: Not exceptional quality and no frills
Our last printer was on its last legs, and we needed a new one. My wife uses the printer daily and our kids use it for nearly all their homework so my wife suggested that we get a laser printer.
There are many advantages to using a laser printer, the primary ones being the print speed and the relative cost of each document printed.
We looked around the usual internet shopping sites and eventually settled on this printer from Amazon. We purchased it for £179.99 but looking on Google I see that one can be purchased for as little as £100 which is very reasonable for a laser printer.
Firstly, some advantages of this printer. Each toner cartridge lasts for at least 1000 pages, and although you can only get hold of a cartridge for more than £50 you still get good value per page. Also this printer is incredibly cheap, probably the cheapest on the market at the moment. THe monotone quality (white on black) is exceptional although the colour wasn't so good.
Some disadvantages of this printer; because of the price the image quality isn't as good as on more expensive models and it is very hard to work out the status of the printer, i.e. what the printer is doing because of the lack of indicator lights. Another problem, as I mentioned before is the way the colour bleeds on full colour documents. This isn't a huge problem but it does make the documents look unprofessional.
However, for what you pay this is an excellent printer and I recommend it to anyone who wants a laser printer on a budget.
Summary: Great printer on a budget

- 16/06/09 As a teacher, I am forever printing out revision notes and worksheets. Black and white is okay, but the students really appreciate colour, especially for thier Biology notes. I tried several inkjet printers, but the ink would run out within days and so I started looking around for a cheap colour laser printer.
The Samsung CLP300 was not only one of the cheapest (I paid only XXXXXXXXX form Amazon) but more usefully, the colour toner cartridges were separate. This meant you only had to buy and replace the colour that had run out. Although expensive at around £45 each toner, the colour cartridges are designed to last 1000 pages (3000 for the Black), although I find they last far longer than this. The printer weas easy to install and set up, and changing the cartridges takes only seconds.
To get the best looking “professional” results, I find it best to use quality paper. Anything too thin and the toner can blled slightly. Monotone black and white printing again looks better on quality paper.
Overall, I would definitely say this is an excellent “budget” colour laser printer, well worth the investment. |
