This printer does exactly what it promises. I’ve used it for printing both colour photographs and black and white text and the result is always crisp and clear. Setup was straightforward. I plugged it into a USB port, loaded the driver software and it was ready to go. Unlike some colour inkjets, this colour laser printer has four separate toner cartridges which slide into place on the left side of the printer, so when a colour runs out you need only replace the one that is empty. On the right of the printer is the manual feed tray, which folds flat and can be opened out when needed.

The printer takes a few minutes to warm up when first turned on and it is then that it is noisiest. After that it churns pages out at a rapid 20 pages per minute (according to the manufacturer). The feature I find most valuable is the duplex printing. Being able to print on both sides of the paper is extremely useful and environmentally friendly, too. You can also print up to 16 pages a side, though you’ll find it difficult to see what you’ve printed at that size. You can also rotate your document, use watermarks or overlays and print at 1200dpi instead of the default 600dpi.

I wouldn’t be without it.
