Advantages: Excellent toner save mode
Disadvantages: USB cable not included
This is a great printer for the home user. The print quality is outstanding. If you don't need great quality you can put the printer into toner save mode, either by using the button on the top of the printer or through the print menu on your PC. Even in that mode, print quality is good, especially when you've got a new toner cartridge in.
Toner save really extends the life of your cartridge. When I got the printer, I'd just started a college course and over the past three years I have had to print several versions of my portfolio work, project papers and disseration. The manufacturers reckon 3500 sheets a cartridge but since I've had my ML-1210 I've only had to replace the toner twice.
As an early Windows XP user, I was slightly annoyed that I had to download new printer drivers, as the ones on the CD did not work, but that's only a small gripe as it was easy enough to do from the Samsung website. Subsequent visits to the site haven't been quite as successful but the drivers are there somewhere.
The Ml1210 starts quickly. I've never had a paper jam or any other problem with it, and when I switched from a serial to a USB cable (not included) earlier this year, it worked even faster. I have no complaints about the speed of printing.
A gap at the front (which can be opened by pressing a lever) allows paper to come out of the front rather than the top. This is a feature I have used many times, as my printer sits above my head.
This printer has now been superseded by newer models, but would still be an excellent secondhand purchase in my opinion.
Summary: A fast, reliable and economical printer
