I was originally using an inkjet printer, as do many home users, until the print quality deteriorated beyond the point legibility. It had lots of additional functions like photo printing and printing onto discs, etc, but I realised I did not need these. They were fiddly anyway, and I can get them done somewhere else. What I wanted for university (mainly essays!) was just a basic no-frills, reliable printer... and that's exactly what this Samsung model is. When you plug it in, you only load the paper and are faced with just two buttons. The power button and another button that prints what is currently on the screen. Brilliantly simple! There's also only one toner cartridge (black) that slots into the machine. The real benefit of laser printing is the amazingly sharp black text. I was astonished by the quality of the print-outs - much better than my old inkjet. The second benefit is the rapid printing. The other benefit of the printer - specifically to this model - is the size. It's extremely compact for a laser printer and it's actually narrower than my last inkjet (but higher).
