I use the Samsung ML-3051N printer at work in my office. We have recently run out of toner and needed a new cartridge, I felt inspired to write a review about this rather large but effcetive printer. The cartridges are expensive however we did manage to get several months use out of it and we use it every day for 80-200 sheets.

The printer was expensive at first to buy however it came with the toner cartridge and gave up over 7 months use from it. At around £180 and £220 the printer is superb for office use or for people who intend to print many pages.
It is a monochrome printer (black and white only) which is ideal for basic word documents e.g. leaflets, forms, information booklets etc. The toner cartridges are between £70 and £90 which may sound like a lot but for the amount of use gained from each it is very reasonable indeed. It can connect to computers via the 2.0 USB port or the firewire connection. It is easy to install and maintain on the computer desktop.
The printers has some excellent features such as Duplex printing, this has helped me create double sided documents without having to print one side turn the page around and re-insert into the feeder tray. This has helped us in the office by cutting down on the amount of paper used and has kept box files and folders as thin as possible.
I am also able to print a booklet e.g. if I have 4 pages of a word document I can arrange these into 4-page booklet but instead of using 4 sheets of paper I only need one. This has helped me reduce the amount of paper I use overall in the office, and it produces a more 'professional' document.
The printer also has a feature called N-up Printing which enables me to cerate many copies of the same page or picture onto a page meaning that I don't have to cut and stick later on, again this makes the job a lot easier, processing is fast and looks professional.
It is also possible to print a 'blown up' enlarged picture from a small picture. The printer will automatically 'blow up' the picture and print on several pages. This has helped if we have had a promotion to advertise of when I have created banners for the office.
I tend to find with some printers that the time between clicking the 'print' button and receiving the printout can take up to 2 minutes especially with an inkjet printer, however this printer is able to print seconds after the 'print' button is clicked and starting to print. In about 5 minutes I have a 30 page document collated and ready to be presented to my boss.
It is also possible to print onto overhead transparencies I have created a few window slogans to motivate everyone. I have also used the printer to print business postcards.
The printer is very good at what it does and the options on the printer's digital screen are useful. I do however find the printer is far too heavy as it weighs about 16kg which seemed to heavy for most surfaces around the office so we had to purchase a strong metal cabinet to sit the printer on the printer measures about 40cm wide, 28cm high and is about 44cm deep so is hard to fit on most desks.
It also generates a lot of heat so on a hot day it can get quite hot, however on a cold day when we cannot open the windows we do feel a little ill with headaches and tiredness, we believe this is caused by the heat and 'fumes' generated by the printer. It can also sometimes smell a little strong after many pages have been printed.
Overall the printer is superb for our office, if you find yourself going through a lot of black ink this printer could be perfect for you, the initial cost and running costs may be high but over time you will get much better value for your money.
