Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20
by musicmad2020 I am a girl who loves her foundation, but sometimes my foundation doesn't show the same love back. Either it oxidizes and ends up looking orange on me, or feels like I have smothered myself in concrete because it just feels so heavy on my skin, thus also usually breaking me out. In my quest for a make-up base that didn't feel ... heavy and suited my rather pale skin, I decided to give the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer a try, as I had heard *many* a good thing from make-up artists and beauty bloggers alike. The nearest counter to me was 2 hours away in Meadowhall, Sheffield so when I went last September, the LM counter in House of Fraser was one of the first places I went to. Before I even get into the product, I must comment on the make-up counter service I received at Laura Mercier. Usually, I leave make-up counters disheartened having been sold something *way too dark* for my pale skin, having been told by the assistant it looks perfect and gorgeous and "just the right shade"... when it is miles from it. This in turn has made me very weary when buying foundation, and I have to go to the counter instead of buying online, and be absolutely sure it is the right shade. Not only was the assistant genuinely lovely and even asked what course I was doing at uni, she really seemed to know what she was doing and even applied a LM primer first. It was one of the few make-up counter experiences I have had whereby I didn't feel pressured into buying the product. The shade I ended up buying was "Porcelain" which is LM's lightest shade out of the 10 shades that are available. The Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer comes in two varieties, the oil inclusive version which is pictured and the one I had tried on me, and the oil-free version. I ended up buying the oil-free version as research tells me that products contain oil can cause breakouts. The oil free version is in a purple tube instead of the grey one pictured, and is currently priced at £33 for 50ml. To many, £33 may seem incredible extortionate, and I have to be honest if it was any more than that I could not have afforded it. However, the fact it is a high quality product from an esteemed brand, and has had such rave reviews across the board really made my mind up... not to mention the counter service. The size of the tube you get for your money - 50ml, also does go a really long way... 11 months in of using this almost on a daily basis, and there is still a fair bit left in the tube. So, what makes this product worth the fuss you may be asking? Well, it's not a heavy foundation.. yet gives good, buildable coverage. Equally, you can apply it just where you need it for example I like it on my chin where I have quite a bit of redness and the odd breakout. It's a product that suits how you want to use it, and generally stays put throughout the entire day. I apply it after moisturizer, and sometimes a primer first depending on how long I want it to last/if I want a more flawless finish. Although it is a moisturizer itself, I will always apply my Nivea moisturizer without fail before any make-up base, just to give my skin a good drink. I also find that a moisturizer helps the base to go on smoother, whether it's a foundation or a tinted moisturizer you happen to apply. This particular product also contains an SPF of 20, so is also helping to protect the skin which can only be a good thing! As for it's consistency, it really does depend how you apply it. I used to apply the product with my hands and blend it in, as it says to on the side of the tube. However, I now use a Real Techniques Stippling brush to buff it into the skin, and find it gives a lovely finish in which a little product goes along way. I have found that no matter how you apply it, it is difficult to apply badly because of the way it blends so easily... something which is great for me as I'm not the most confident when it comes to applying foundation evenly. The finish it leaves after application is quite natural. It enhances your natural features without caking you in a thick layer of make-up, and feels much more comfortable to wear throughout the day. I still find I need a touch of concealer, however this does blend nicely over the top of the tinted moisturizer. I also find that it does provide a good base for my blusher, just the same as a foundation would yet on a much more natural level. The packaging is also one of my favourites of any make-up base I have ever bought. It's a squeezy tube, in a deep purple/aubergine colour which appears slightly sparkly. It also has a really secure lid, that is just as easy to get off yet won't fall off in your bag. There is also nothing worse than foundations in glass bottles, because a good amount of the product ends up going to waste. With the LM tinted moisturizer packaging, you can really squeeze every last drop out and not see your money go down the drain. All in all, I count the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer as one of the best beauty buys I have ever purchased. It goes on beautifully, doesn't irritate my skin or clog my pores, can be used in any amount, blends nicely and even has sensible yet equally sleek packaging. It also doesn't make me look orange which is a major plus when you are as pale as I am. Granted, it is certainly not cheap however given the quality and how long it lasts, you begin to see how the price spreads quite well as a little goes a long way. The Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is certainly a product I will be re-buying when it's all gone, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Read the complete review |

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20
by HayleyBlondiee If you handed me a tinted moisturiser in one hand and a foundation in the other I would take the foundation without thinking twice as I love the coverage and protection it gives my skin. However coming into the summer I wanted something lighter and more natural looking as I don't want to look too made up or cakey whilst the sun is ... shining down and highlighting it! I searched around for the perfect one - but as with most make up stuffs there are too many to choose from with each individual claiming to do this and that for my skin. I tried a low end tinted moisturiser but it came out orange and almost stained my skin so I looked like I had an unhealthy appetite for carrots. I then decided I should probably spend a little more and buy a slightly higher end one so that my skin would have the total benefits from it. That is where I found the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 20 - something I absolutely love and made me want to buy and try. This particular tinted moisturiser is the No. 1 selling Tinted Moisturizer based on the NPD Group sales and also a beauty award winner, so it must be doing something right I thought to myself! Laura Mercier claims that this product has a lightweight formula that softens skin to reduce fine lines and dryness while adding a healthy glow to your complexion resulting in a natural, dewy finish. It not only looks good on your skin but it does good as it has a multitude of goodness packed into it especially the SPF20, UVA and UVB sunscreen protection to protect your skin from the sins ageing and harmful rays. There is also an antioxidant vitamin complex that protects skin from the most 'aggressive effects of the environment' such as pollution and day to day grime. This tinted moisturiser is perfect and suitable for all skin types and 'extremely long wearing!' Usually when I review products I talk through each shade individually but with this foundation I feel I will be here all day as there are a whopping 12 shades to choose from - a very strong advantage in my opinion as I guarantee there will be something for everyone. I have tried to group them into the different skin tones however if you are still unsure which shade will suit you best then I would go to your nearest Laura Mercier counter and ask them to match you. Porcelain, Blush and Nude - These three shades are the lightest in the range and are perfect for fair complexions. Depending on how fair you are - if you are very pale like me then Porcelain would suit you the best as it does not have any pink or orange tones in it but does give some colour to the skin. If you are pale but have pink undertones then I would suggest Blush as it gives the skin a warm glow without appearing too over the top or too dark. And if you have fair skin that is bordering on medium (or if you wear fake tan) then Nude would be the best for you as it has a very soft beige hint to it - but again nothing too much or too full on. Bisque, Sand and Fawn - These shades are what I would categorise as the Medium shades that would be perfect for mid to dark skin tones. Bisque is a very golden creamy colour that accentuates a golden glowing tan and would look lovely for the summer. Sand is a slightly darker and more bronzed tinted shade that would suit you if you have a darker complexion. And Fawn is a light bronzed tan colour that gives your complexion a healthy glow. Almond, Tawny and Caramel - These three shades will suit you if you have darker skin than the medium shades. Almond is a bronzed shade that has a lot of golden undertones to give a lighter shade. Tawny is slightly darker, but not much I think a mix if the two would give a perfect shade altogether. And Caramel is more of a honey brown colour - I'd love to be able to pull off these shades as they are so gorgeous! Tan, Walnut and Mocha - These are the darkest shades of the range with Tan being the lightest dark shade and Mocha being the darkest. With tinted moisturisers you have to remember that it will not have the coverage and the build up as a foundation so be sure to pick the right shade for you as if its too light, it will be harder to build it up. I chose the lightest shade Porcelain and love the shade and how it matched my skin - this is quite an expensive product so please make sure you do not waste your money by buying the wrong shade as with make up there will be no refunds or exchanges due to hygiene reasons. The packaging is very sleek, simply and stylish with a plastic tube bottle coloured in a pearly goldy pink hue with a screw cap lid at the bottom - like most moisturiser bottles that are available. Along the middle in horizontal spaced out lettering is 'Lauren Mercier' and on the back are the ingredients and a little bit about the product. To access you simply unscrew the lid and squeeze a little out from the tube. I like to apply mine with a brush as I find it buffs into my skin easier, however you can also use your fingers or a sponge - it is entirely down to your preference. I apply this after I have primed my skin as I always try to fill in my pores before I put any sort of foundation or tinted moisturiser onto my face - however this is not a necessary step and I have worn it without and it works just as well - it's just me being picky! I usually use about a 5 pence piece amount and that is more than enough! I start by working it into my T-Zone and then onto my cheeks. On the skin it feels incredibly smooth and blends in SO easily I don't have to do much work! The shade matches my skin perfectly and I really love the results. As it is a tinted moisturiser I was not expecting full coverage however I would not say it was too light either - sort of a light to medium but if you build it up a little then you can achieve a better coverage. It lasts for ages with just a dusting of powder over the top and does not look cakey or like I am wearing make up at all! I LOVE it! It is just like you are wearing a second and better skin - not make up! This is quite an expensive product at roughly £20 - £25 depending on where you buy, but a little really does go a long way and it lasts for ages! I purchased mine online however you can buy from all Laura Mercier counters and online outlets! Don't smother your skin in make up when you can smother it in goodness instead! Laura Mercier Undercover Pot Concealer
by helenc72 === The brand === Laura Mercier is an American cosmetics company. The founder is not in fact called Laura Mercier but has the rather less glamourous name of Janet Gurwitch! It is named after a French makeup artist. Laura Mercier is not as well known and widely available as some of the big brands, but you can buy it ... from Space NK and some branches of John Lewis. === Format and contents of the undercover pot === The undercover pot is a compact little pot which makes up a full concealing kit and it contains the following products: Secret Camouflage (1.0g) in the left pan, to conceal redness and blemishes. Secret Concealer (0.8g) in the right pan, to conceal undereye darkness. Loose setting powder (4.09g) underneath. There is also a mirror inside the lid. The lid fastens very securely as you can hear and feel the click of it locking into place once closed. I have had the undercover pot for 6 or 7 months and have often carried it in my small makeup bag in my handbag, and never experienced any problems with this lid coming open. The powder in the bottom compartment is also very secure. I am wary of carrying powder products around with me as they can make such a mess if any of the product manages to escape, but I have not had any leakage or mess out of this pot. To get the powder out, you need to unscrew the bottom half of the pot to detach it from the bit containing the concealer pans. You are then left with a small see through pot of powder with tiny holes in the top to shake the powder out of. I have found that in my pot there is now a very large amount of powder resting on the top of those holes, due to the pot being shaken and jostled around in my bag regularly so I have to be careful not to spill the powder once I have opened this section but that's not really a problem, as it is secure until I open it. === Secret Camouflage === Secret Camouflage is a concealer for redness and blemishes and it can be used under or over foundation. It has quite a solid texture so when I first got it I thought it might be quite difficult to work with, but in fact I haven't really found it a problem. It is easy to pick a bit up on a concealer brush. I definitely recommend using a brush for this, as the pan is quite small so it would be awkward to use a finger, it would be more difficult to work with the hard texture with fingers and it could also be a bit unhygenic to put this on spots with your fingers! It has quite a strong yellowy base, which makes it cancel out and neutralise redness extremely well. It is highly pigmented and a small dot of this gives great coverage while still looking natural. I find this has good staying power and doesn't start to wear off a few hours after application, like some concealers do. Once I have put it on I can just forget about it and carry on with my day! === Secret Concealer === In the last couple of years I have started to develop some dark circles under my eyes so undereye concealer is one of my most important makeup items. I use the Secret Concealer on top of my foundation. I only need a little bit as it is very creamy making it easy to blend to achieve good coverage, and it is quite highly pigmented so it instantly brightens the area. I use shade 2 and it is a good colour match for my fairly pale skin. It has quite a strong pink coloured base to it, which helps to brighten under the eyes. I find that anything too yellow based under my eyes makes me look ill. I apply it using the Laura Mercier Secret Camoflague brush which is thin and tapered so the small end of it enables accurate, precise application in small areas and does not waste product. It is really easy to apply the concealer as it's so creamy and simple to blend. I have often had a problem with concealers creasing or settling into a fine line under my eye, but I have not experienced this with Laura Mercier. I think this is because such a small quantity is required, so it doesn't build up and start sliding around. === Loose setting powder === I don't always bother with this setting powder, as I find the secret camouflague under my eyes usually lasts pretty well without it, but the purpose of the powder is to set the concealer, keeping it in good condition and making it last longer. It is very finely milled so it does not feel heavy. I hate heavy powders as I feel they always look so obvious, they settle in any fine lines you may have - and I am only 25 so I barely even have any lines, but I still notice this - and sometimes they make me feel itchy! That's why I am often reluctant to use powders, but with this Laura Mercier powder I can forget those concerns. On the times when I do use it, I find it very easy to apply as I simply get some on the powder brush and gently roll the brush under my eyes over the top of the concealer, without pressing too hard. It is translucent and does look completely invisible, and therefore natural. I don't get that horrible powdery look. It does work well at making the concealer stay on longer and last all day. One thing that can be a big problem with some undereye setting powders is "ghosting" and the "reverse panda" meaning that when you have a photo taken of you, the powder reflects the light and makes you look like you have white rings around your eyes. This was famously a problem with HD Powder and YSL Touche Eclat highlighter (which some people use as a concealer) under the eyes. I was a bit concerned about whether this might happen with this Laura Mercier powder as it is a very similar product to the HD Powder, but thankfully I haven't experienced this issue! === Overall === The Undercover Pot is really handy as it contains three good products in one compact unit. I would definitely recommend it if you want to try these products. However, I think if I want to reguarly use these products (which I do) it will be more economical and better value per gram to buy the products separately. The full concealers contain a much larger quantity than you get in the small pans of the undercover pot. The undercover pot costs £29 from Space NK and should be the same or very similar price elsewhere. However, I won't take a star off for the price because at least this pot does let you try three products without having to pay for the full sized pots of each one, which is great if you don't know whether they will be right for you. The small size and 3 in 1 format also makes it ideal for travelling or for taking out with you in your makeup bag. Read the complete review |
