Advantages: Nice colour, shimmer

Disadvantages: None

It's not something I wear everyday when I'm just popping to the shops or the like but when I go out or on a special occasion I like to add some shimmer to my make up. Shimmer adds a bit of sparkle to my look without being over the top like glitter can be and it also makes my skin and complexion look really nice and even and gives me a bit of a warm glow. So, all in all a really nice look.

One of the best shimmers I own is from Laura Mercier cosmetics. I came across Laura Mercier quite a few years ago when my friend used her make up for her wedding day and I was lucky enough to use it too as I was one of her bridesmaids. Laura Mercier is actually a French make up artist who lent her name to a range of cosmetics.

Her shimmer bloc is described as, "a unique baked formula that applies effortlessly while brightening the eyes, cheeks and body with a hint of natural colour and light."

It comes in a really nice black compact and is in a thick chunky square shape. It comes in four different shades, golden mosaic, mosaic, peach mosaic and pink mosaic. I have it in golden mosaic as I like my skimmer to give me a sun kissed look when I apply it and this one really does. The shimmer bloc is made up of four different colours. In this compact there is a gold colour, a brown colour, a cream colour and a light brown colour. Each is a really nice shade and has some shimmer in it. You can use each individually but the best way to use this shimmer bloc is to take a big thick brush and rub it all over the compact so you really get the colour pigment to mix on your brush and then you get a bit of each colour when you brush it across your face and skin. In this way I think you get a colour that really moves and adds some depth to your face rather than just one colour as you would with just a cheek powder say.

The colours are really well packed in the compact and I think this is due to the baked formula which keeps them packed together tightly and will only come off on your burst which is nice. I have had this compact for quite a few months now and the colours have not broken up or rubbed into each other which is nice. The powder goes on really well and holds onto my face and I find really stays for the whole day.

I apply it mainly to my cheeks, a little bit to my nose to give it a bit of shading and a bit to my forehead as well. If I am wearing a low cut top I also apply it to my chest area to give that a bit of definition as well. The shimmer bloc is not cheap, I bought mine for around £17 but its not something I use everyday and as I see it more as an investment piece of make up I don't mind paying for something that will last quite a long while.
