Pamela+M Qualcast Elan 32: ... years ago I bought a small Flymo mower. It cost me just over $100 (Australian) (About £40 (English). It is a lovely bright orange colour, yes the colour is still nice and bright. There is no engine, so I don’t have to get it serviced, or buy it fuel. In Australia it has novelty value, most people have motor mowers, and as people walk past they stop to comment and have a chat, so my mower helps me t...

just-a-girl Qualcast Elan 32
... bought the Elan 32 about 6 months ago when my flymo that I'd had for 'years' finally came to the end of its days. My father told me that cylinder mowers were superior and as 'Dads always know best', I paid out the extra and bought the Elan 32. Mistake! Things started off well enough and putting it together was a doddle (even for a girl!)the instructions were clearly written. It was the performance that let this mower down - I have a medium sized garden and found the grassbox needed emptying constantly or else the cut grass spewed back out of the grassbox leaving a trail behind me. The rollers main aim appeared to be flattening the grass as oppose...

... ? just by pushing some bolts through the handles and hand tightening. (2) The grass collection box needs to be carefully clipped together, once this is done correctly the box is quite firm. (3) The cutting blade requires careful adjustment: This requires the use of a screwdriver to accurately adjust the set of the cutting blade. Cylinder mowers cut the grass between the rotating blade and a fixed blade, in a similar method to a pair of shears. The blades need to be in very close proximity for the cutting action to take place. Once correctly adjusted the mower will provide a much better finish than a rotary motors ?hacking? blade. Once the mower is set up as ...

... few weeks ago my Flymo Compact 300 gave up the ghost. I had only had this lawnmower for 2 years, and over the last few weeks, a crack started to appear in the main casing at the front. As I kept mowing, the crack developed into a rather large hole and a large chunk of it dropped off. One of the side clips had also "pinged" off, getting lost in the shrubbery, so I had tied this up with a strong plastic tie. As the model had a 5 year guarantee (parts), on ringing Flymo, I took it to my local dealer to be looked at. After waiting 3 and a half weeks, I returned to the dealer, only to be told that a Flymo representative had called and that the mower was not cov...
