Advantages: Very little.
Disadvantages: Poor cutting, drops grass on the lawn, small capacity grass box.........
When we put a lawn down in our back garden I suddenly realized that I would need to mow it and so quickly rushed out and rather hastily purchased the Flymo Mow n Vac. Well that was a few years ago now and for some unknown reason I still have the same lawn mower, at least that is what I think it is.
The reason I am confused is because when you plug this thing in it happily glides around the lawn, covering ground with ease. I can honestly say it is easy to use and is comfortable to operate. Just one tiny problem; it doesn't cut the grass! Well okay it does cut the grass eventually, but it takes forever to do so. Luckily the ease of operation means that you can walk around the garden all day without breaking a sweat.
To be complete and fair I shall continue discussing all features of the mower. The mower weighs 8Kg. It has an easy to empty grass box, that is of course if you classify hitting a bump in the garden as the time you need to empty, then you can guarantee the grass will be deposited quite easily all over your garden. The capacity of the grass box looks quite large but is in fact very small. This again is due to the poor design of the mower.
There are two plastic blades which are quick and easy to change, again a useful feature as you will need to change them frequently. My garden is not large and I tend to check for debris before mowing, but it is amazing how many times a small collision will damage these delicate blades.
The cable is long enough to handle a small garden without an extension back up, so there is one positive I guess, although that is more for you to laboriously wrap around the handle when finished.
I once owned a simple little manually operated cylindrical mower. I don't think I really appreciated how good that mower was until I bought the Flymo model.
I cannot remember how much I paid for the Flymo Mow n Vac, but at the current £59.99 on offer at Amazon you will not be surprised to hear that I do not think that is good value. With replacement blades costing around £3.50 for 6, I need a constant supply of those too.
Mowing the lawn is not a job I relish if I am honest, but I never used to hate the job as much as I do now with this utter piece of garbage. If anyone offers to give you one or even pays you to take it, just run away, keep running and never look back.
One star; because I have too.
Summary: The most useless lawnmower, and a complete waste of money.

- 06/08/09 I totally agree with you. I bought one of these darn mowers for my hankerchief sized lawn, It didn't hover, it hopped, the bumps were not large, but it couldn't cope. It is a not so cheap but nasty mower. |
