Flymo Mow 'n' Vac
Advantages: Cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: Doesn't cut that well and replacement blades
I purchased my Flymo Mow n Vac when I bought my first house about six years ago. Having never really experienced the joys of mowing a lawn (thats what parents are for!) I made the purchase owing to two factors:
1) Its a Flymo so its must be good
2) It was cheap (around £50)
The mower is relatively light and easy to handle, as much as these things are, and can be easily hung in a shed or folded away to minmise wasted space. The mowing itself feels quite effortless, but that comes at a price, as it doesn't cut grass particularly well. Even when I adjusted my mower to the lower of the two settings, for a closer cut, the results were barely visible. This may be just as well, as the cuttings storage box, altohugh easy to remove and empty, doesn't really hold much grass anyway!
Anyone considering buying one of these should also be wary of the small plastic cutting blades. The very suggestion of a pebble or twig on your lawn will cause them to break and fall off, and although they're easy enough to replace, expect to become an expert within six months, as you will get through loads of replacement blades.
Overall the Flymo Mow n Vac isn't a bad first time mower as long as you keep on top of your lawn. It is not the greatest cutter once grass grows too much and the constant replacement of blades will make you replace it within a year!
Summary: If you can afford it, buy a better model
