Advantages: Folds small, light, good lead length, cheap
Disadvantages: Rubbish cut, leaves grass everywhere, basket too small
We bought this lawnmower whilst on special offer - the money off was more of a pull that any reviews we had read about it which labelled this mower average. Having used the mower over the last six months I would now say this was a very generous review. It just about creeps over 'total rubbish'! I suppose it kind of does it's job (eventually, and with quite a lot of effort!) but had many features I don't like, and just seems like too much hard work to be honest!
Our first use was on fairly overgrown grass - the flymo to be pushed back and forth over a piece of grass to get a low level trim-even using the most suitable cut setting. After ten minutes I was totally worn out! It took me over an hour to trim down a fairly small area of grass. It also ripped into the dirt in a few places, though this could be down to me having to mow each area of lawn several times due to slightly overgrown areas. Once finished my lawn looked a state, with loose clumps of grass all over it. Even though it has a 'vacuum' basket for collecting grass (which fills up very quickly!) there was still loose grass everywhere. I had to go out and buy a rake, which I then to use over all the grass to pick up what the mower should have! Thoroughly bored at this point, think I was ranting that I would never mow the lawn again!!
However, was talked into keeping it for one more try, just incase the overgrown grass had hindered the flymo - the grass was well overdue a cut! How I wish I hadn't bothered! Exactly the same situation arose, this time with grass barely needing a trim. The 'gliding' (LOL!) is more like labored pushing. Even my partner who is 6ft and well built didn't find it an easy ride. And again, the grass was littered with clumps of grass that weren't picked up.
Yes it was a cheap deal - that however is the only good point I can think of. Oh, and it packs down quite small, and is quite light. All of these are irrelevant however, as I found this to be a totally rubbish mower!!! I now have a great local man who pops over every month with his petrol mower and does the garden for £15 - money well spent in my opinion!! We will get another mower in the future, however I will definitely be reading and listening to all dooyoo reviews and not just buying something that is highly discounted. Oh and it probably won't be a flymo!!
Summary: A sharp pair of scissors would have worked better!!
