Boots Foot Softening Lotion
Advantages: Immediate cooling and pleasant feeling. Gentle and refreshing
Disadvantages: Not a miracle cure for dry skin, takes a while to absorb
This softening foot lotion is a product I've used for years and I find to be very effective for what it claims to do. For 90% of the year, regardless of the weather, I have to wear shoes and socks for work. Consequently when I have a week's holiday, the first thing I can't wait to do is to lose the shoes and socks for a week and usually, after this shock treatment, my feet usually protest.
Often on holiday I stay in budget places with a shower rather than a bath, so the issue is compounded because I don't get to soak my feet at the end of a day. Instead, after showering I will give my feet a good massage with this lotion and it definitely helps the situation.
The primary thing it does is relieves the "buzzing" I tend to get ... again, most of my days are pretty sedate, so a days walking around on holiday is a bit of a shock to the system. I think the colour of the lotion is some sort of optical illusion, it just *looks* calming and refreshing - and so it proves when I rub it in. It has a gorgeous fresh scent, a hint of mint and camomile as noted on the bottle, and it has a genuinely cooling effect. I will use a fairly significant splodge (is that a legitimate measurement?) for each foot and it takes about 5 minutes to massage that in. After rubbing in, my feet feel better and fresher and I'm ready for the evening.
This lotion isn't a miracle lotion, it doesn't keep my feet soft when I'm barefoot day and night for 7 days by any stretch of the imagination. By the time I get home I have to admit that my feet are almost literally crying out for some prolongued comfort, a good soak in a bath, and in the meantime they have become pretty hard, particularly the heels and balls of my feet. I've even still suffered with cracked heels occasionally even when using the lotion nightly. I always extend use of the lotion for the next few weeks after I get back and over that time the skin on my heels and balls of my feet definitely return to their more normal state - which I should add, isn't exactly "soft" to start with. Its good to remind myself that this is a "foot softening lotion" and not a "dry skin rescue treatment".
The point is, I dread to think what my feet would be like if I didn't use this lotion when I am going barefoot for any length of time, so I'm giving 4 stars.
Summary: A lovely pleasant product
