Explanation: why I need this item
I am forever moaning about my feet because I am between a size 8 and 9 which is large for a lady. I am finding the size 8 (EU42) a bit snug lately so tend to opt for the 9s which can be hard to find but I had an important interview to attend and needed some smart shoes so I bought some size 9 Hush Puppies which felt OK on in the shop (as shoes always do!). I have terrible feet which are always uncomfortable in whatever I wear unless its flip flops but sometimes you have to opt for a smarter shoe!
When I first wore the shoes I had cold feet and the shoes kept slipping off so I had to find a solution as the shoes were expensive and I'd worn them so couldn't really take them back to the shop. The Carnation heel grips came up in an ebay search so I thought I'd give them a try.
Packaging and description
The heel grips are simply packaged in cardboard with minimal instructions. Inside the sleeve there are two heel grips which have a suede feel to them and are adhesive on the back. You have to peel off the adhesive and fix to your shoe getting it right position wise the first time. The straight edge follows the top of the shoe and there is a padded part beneath this then a curved edge.
After fixing these in my expensive shoes, I found they really did have a better fit to my foot but were not intrusive in the shoe so did not rub or make me walk funny. If anything I was walking better as I was not trying to keep the shoe on my foot!
I like these but I wish you could transfer them to other shoes as you can with insoles if you wish. As you fix them in, they must stay in there until you decide to remove them and this will be a bit sticky so they need to be left in place really. Although, they went in a £55 pair of leather shoes so what's another couple of pounds when you are shelling out this much anyway?
As I mentioned, the price when added to postage came to £2.88 which is quite reasonable to say they are posted to you so you don't even have to leave the house. I have not seen these in any shops but I am sure they are available on the high street somewhere. I bought my set from ebay.
I think I would buy these again in the future if I feel I have a pair of shoes that are slightly too big. I think they can cater for a half size but no bigger difference in feet versus shoe. The packet says that they improve shoe comfort which I agree with in that they reduce friction and slippage and it's great that they are one size fits all. I would like it if Carnation would sell more than one pair in a packet as I could find some other shoes in my wardrobe that need a pair of these!
