I bought my pot of Lush Fair Trade Foot lotion last year. I'd love to say I've been using it ever since, but foot creams are one of those products that I can never seem to find the inclination to apply, so for a long time I was only putting it on once a week at most. I actually put the pot on my bedside table in the hope that it would prompt me to remember to apply this before I went to bed, but even that didn't work. It's only now that summer's here (well sort of!) that I have started applying this regularly, in an attempt to keep my feet looking decent in my sandals.

As the name suggests this foot lotion is Fair Trade and actually carries the Fair Trade logo, something that you will regularly see on food products, but is quite rare to find on a beauty product.

The lotion contains an array of lovely ingredients, all to help soothe your feet, including almond oil, peppermint oil, spearmint oil and cocoa butter. It does however contain parabens (Methylparaben and Propylparaben) which some people have concerns about, hence the huge amount of paraben-free products popping up on the market.

The product comes in a black plastic tub, which looks like a little plant pot with a screw top lid. Very bland, but Lush always say that they prefer to spend their money on the ingredients in their products rather than the packaging they come in which I suppose is fair enough.

The lotion itself is baby pink in colour and has a soft minty smell. I'd say that it smells more of spearmint than peppermint, and isn't too strong or overpowering. It actually has a slight sweetness to the scent and I can detect the scent of the cocoa butter albeit very vaguely.

When I first used this I was surprised by the consistency of the lotion, and even now I find it quite strange. I had expected a rather thick lotion, but in fact the glossy pink cream is fairly runny. When you rub it into the skin only a small amount is needed - because of it's thin consistency it spreads out easily over the skin. It doesn't take too much rubbing in, and sinks into the skin quickly. For me, that is quite a bonus, because I really don't like it when you apply a foot lotion and end up with a sort of slimy feeling against your toes, or feel you're sticking to the carpet when you walk around!

Even now that I'm applying this regularly, I can't say I'm overly impressed with the results. The skin on the feet is very dry and tends to be harder than the skin on other areas of your body. For this reason feet need quite an intense moisturiser, and I really don't feel that this product is intense enough. It's almost as if I have just applied a light body lotion to my feet rather than a specific product designed for feet.

Whilst the fact this product is fair trade is honourable, as a foot lotion I simply don't like it. I don't think it is intensive enough for the feet and it's a little expensive for what it is. If the skin on your feet is not particularly dry or rough you may like this product, but my poor, gnarled old feet need something a little more intense and so I won't be buying this product again.
