Advantages: Easy to use, nice thick texture, visible effect, inexpensive

Disadvantages: Doesn't smell amazing

As I'm sure you can tell from my previous reviews, I'm a massive fan of the Soap and Glory range. I tend to buy their facial skincare products, but I was really excited to get a bumper pack of body bits and pieces for Christmas, which has allowed me to test out a load of products I'd never tried before.

One such product is Heel Genius, which I'd wanted to use after hearing good reviews. I tend to neglect my feet, so I was really keen on the idea of improving the condition of my feet and softening up the hard skin on the bottom of them.

Heel Genius is a thick, yet easily-absorbed cream. The instructions on the packaging tell users to 'Massage a generous layer of Heel Genius onto clean feet every night (or at least as often as you remember). Slip cotton socks overtop and let it soak in while you sleep'. As the directions show, this is a very easy product to use and it should take no longer than a minute or two to apply it to both feet.

When I woke up the day after using this cream for the first time, I must admit I was a little bit disappointed. I think I'd expecting it to be like Soap and Glory's Hand Food, which makes a real difference to the way my skin feels after just one application. My feet felt a little softer, but not hugely. However, I've carried on using it for a couple of weeks ago, and it's certainly made a difference now. My feet are softer and smoother and look much nicer, and a couple of flaky patches of skin that I'd previously found difficult to get rid of have disappeared.

Unlike many other Soap and Glory products I've tried, I'm not crazy about the smell of Heel Genius. The fragrance is difficult to describe and it's not unpleasant, but I wouldn't say it's reflective of some of the ingredients used in the cream (macadamia oil, menthol, bilberry, orange and lemon fruit acid smoothers). However, I don't think the fragrance is that important when it comes to this product, as it's applied really quickly and then you cover your feet with socks, which prevent you from being able to smell anything anyway.

Heel Genius has an RRP of £5.11 for a 125ml tube. When I first started using it I was worried that the tube wouldn't last very long, as, despite being easily-absorbed, you end up using a fair amount on the hard skin on the bottom of your feet. However, as my feet have softened up after a couple of weeks of using Heel Genius, I've found myself needing less and less to cover my feet, and I think the tube will last me a good few more weeks yet.

Overall, I'd recommend this product. It doesn't have as instant an effect as I've come to expect from many Soap and Glory products, but if you persevere with it it'll make a real improvement to the condition of your feet. 'Better than a pedicure?' asks the packaging, to which I'd answer no, probably not, but nonetheless a good product.

Summary: Better than a pedicure? Maybe not, but still a great product
