Advantages: removes rough skin, lasts quite long
Our feet can be quite abused at times. From wearing the wrong shoes, exercising and standing on them all day. Yet, a lot of people don't take good care of them. Sure, they may give them a good wash in the shower or enjoy the odd foot massage but do they really care for them? The answer in a lot of cases is no. We spend ages washing and conditioning their hair, applying lotions to their bodies and all sorts of products on our face. Our feet carry us about all day, everyday and I think everyone should take better care of them.
This is why I bought the foot file from The Body Shop to remove the dead skin from my feet as part of my foot care regime. Especially recently I have noticed my feet requiring extra care and attention, especially from my foot file.
-- What is the foot file? --
The foot file is double sided, with one side quite rough and the other more smooth. The latter is used for more exfoliating and the former to remove the dead, hard skin from your feet. They are set into a wooden, hand held paddle with a number of stamps to tell you that the file is from the Body Shop and part of 'Community Trade' and 'FSC'. This makes it sturdy to use to ensure you get close to the skin and easy to handle.
That hard skin on your heels? This file will slowly remove it. To do this, you simply rub the rougher side over the hard skin and watch it flake off. You will know how hard to press and fast to go quite instinctively.
-- Does it work? --
Yes! In fact you can see it working as the skin falls off in flakes onto the floor/ the surface your feet are over. So you may want to put something down below your feet. Depending on how bad your feet are, it can take a bit of work. I generally stop when I don't think my feet can be filed down anymore. And again depending on how bad your feet are, it won't get rid of all your hard skin - you put a lot of pressure on your feet, expect the skin to be hard - but it does a good job in getting rid of a majority of it, especially the the dry and rough patches. Which leaves your skin feeling smooth and looking a lot more healthy.
I use mine whenever my feet need it and always finished by using a really good moisturiser on it, such as a body butter. Keep this up and you will have great looking feet!
The file should be replaced probably one or two times a year. I wait for the file to be obviously worn out, I've had mine for about 6 months so far and with some heavy use I am beginning to think of buying a new one. Not quite yet but soon.
-- Price and Availability --
You can pick these up from Body Shop stores or online for the good price of £4.50
-- Compared to other foot files --
When I lost this foot file, I bought another one to test it out. However, I didn't get along with it. The handle would bend when I tried to use it, meaning I couldn't get the file close enough to my skin to get rid of the rough skin effectively. Plus, I have this file for years and it still has at least another year in it. I wouldn't trust cheaper ones to do this.
A couple more great points about the file is that it is made from FSC birch wood, the FSC certification is a standard given to wood from well-managed forests, so you know its coming from a good source. Also a percentage of each purchase goes towards a social fund for local communities from the timber productions in Russia. This has helped fund an ambulance and refurbish a nursery for 50 children.
-- Conclusion --
I love this file. It is effective at removing the tough, hard skin from your feet and leaving them smooth. My feet feel so great after using this product! I'd recommend it to everyone to use as part of their footcare regime. I find this one is better than others I have tried plus the Community Trade and FSC stamp make me feel much better about the purchase. And after years of use, it has proven to be of great value.
Summary: A great product for removing the hard, rough, dry skin from feet.
