Lego Friends 3931: Emma's Splash Pool
by shopping_jem
A lovely little lego set for girls, which is great used either as a stand-alone small set or in conjunction with other lego friends. I bought this as a christmas stocking filler for my 6-year-old daughter, and she was very pleased with it. She put it together in about ten minutes, and then used it as a playset making "Emma" ... sit in the splash pool or lie on the lounger.
As far as value goes, you don't get a lot for your money with this set, but it is quality and nice to play with. The fact that it requires building but also works as a playset makes it a good alternative to other "pocket money toys" which don't require any assembly. We have some of the bigger lego friends sets too, and I have found this one is a nice introduction to teach my daughter how to follow the lego instructions and get quick results.
Overall, great for a stocking filler, pocket money toy, small birthday pressie etc. Don't expect a lot for your money, but what you get is nice and easy to set up and play with. Read the complete review |

Lego 853353 Seasonal Holiday Magnet
by rolandrat
===Why I Got This===
This little set was an early Christmas present from my son and his girlfriend. They both know I enjoy Christmas so they gave me some seasonal items early so that I could use them as decorations.
===The Brand===
Lego is a construction toy made by The Lego Group, based in ... Denmark.
Lego is world famous for its interlocking plastic bricks and now also mini figures and other boxed sets. The best thing about Lego is that it can be taken apart and re-made into something different. Lego began making interlocking toy bricks in 1949.
===The Product===
Comes in a small bright yellow box approximately 5 x 3.5 inches.
A building toy for over 6 years.
Contains 48 pieces.
Box has the standard LEGO logo and the yellow box is made to look like a brick. On the front is an image of the finished Santa magnet.
Distributed by LEGO group, Denmark.
Warning - choking hazard due to small parts.
Full colour instructions plus extra stickers in different languages.
===Cost===
My son said that this was not too expensive when he bought it in the LEGO shop in Manchester a while ago.
However the ones I have found on line are quite expensive for what they are:
$9.99 on the LEGO website
£12.99 on Amazon UK
£9.99 on Ebay.
===My Opinion===
This was a lovely little novelty to receive early on in the festivities when we were decorating the house ready for Christmas.
The finished magnet is about 3.25 inches wide by 3 inches tall.
Luckily the set came with a good, clear, coloured instruction sheet which made it easy to put together.
The magnets and base are red bricks and Father Christmas comes in five pieces which need to be fastened together. By his side Santa has a brown sack brick which contains a white 'letter' which just slips into the sack. The letter is not a brick at all and slips in and out of the sack (too) easily - but by moving Santa's hand forward over the top of the sack it will keep the contents of the sack in place.
By the side of the tree is a parcel made out of blue and white bricks and with two transparent blue bricks on the top to represent a bow.
The fiddliest part is putting the tree and its 'lights' together. The main part of the tree is made out of thin green bricks while the lights or decorations on the tree are thirteen small round transparent yellow little bricks. However the instructions are easy to follow and the whole thing does not take very long to complete.
Along the front of the base was a transparent sticker proclaiming 'Happy Holidays' - however if this is not to your taste (or language) you also have a sheet of twelve more variations of greeting - and we changed ours to simply read 'Merry Christmas' - but the other eleven stickers are all in various other languages.
This has a strong double magnet section at the back and I now have it stuck to some Christmas tins in my kitchen.
It is pretty and a good size and my son was surprised at how nice and large it was when complete - and he says he only paid a 'couple of pounds' for it. I am not really sure of its price as he did buy it in a Lego shop but the ones I have found online are, in my opinion, quite expensive but what it is.
It is a nice novelty but does not have lots of play value for children for the prices being asked in some places.
So while I would give it five stars for novelty value and sturdiness I have marked it down for the price being charged in some places as I have failed to find it cheaper online.
I believe this Seasonal magnet was issued in 2011 and I have found two similar ones online as well - one with a sleigh (2009) and the other with a different type of Christmas tree (2006).
===Star Rating===
4 stars - depending on the cost.
===Would I Recommend?===
Yes.

Lego Duplo 6759: Busy Farm
by Whizz11
My son received this book and Duplo set for his first birthday and I think it was the perfect present as its just right for his age in my opinion, there is something to read and more importantly there is something to build which is one of his favourite things to do.
So, what exactly is it? Well the set contains a hardbound ... book and 15 duplo bricks and as you read the book about the farm animals it tells you how to put the bricks together to make your very own farm animals. I love that they have combined reading with play and its a great way of teaching without kids being aware that they are actually doing something educational as well as fun.
According to an article I read, Duplo (trademarked as DUPLO) is a product range of the construction toy Lego, designed for children aged 1½ to 5 years old. Duplo bricks are twice the length, height and width of traditional Lego bricks, making them easier to handle and less likely to be swallowed by younger children. Despite their size, they are still compatible with traditional Lego bricks. Initially launched in 1969, the Duplo range has gone on to include sets with figures, cars, houses and trains."
First of all, if you read this just as a book I think its a very interesting read for a young child as it explains all about a busy day on a farm and what a farmer has to do and all about his animals. The pictures are bright and bold and colourful and there is just enough text on each page to keep a child interested. The text is bold and easy to read and what I also like is there are animals sounds written on the book as well so you can mimmick each animal and teach them to your child. We read about a rooster, pigs, sheep, and cows. Then on the right hand side of each page there is a picture of the bricks you need to make each animal and how to put them together. Each animal is only three of four pieces (except the rooster which has 5 pieces) and is easy and simple to put together. I would say that at this point in time my one year old cannot put them together so I have to do it but he enjoys playing with them and taking them apart once I have finished them. They look quite realistic and its amazing to see how only three bricks can actually make a realistic looking animal. Of course, there are a few bricks with eyes on which make it a bit more realistic but still, I find it very clever.
The Duplo bricks are well made and sturdy and I have no fears that my little boy could swallow them. If you want to see a photo I have a lovely shot of the pig and the cow that I made. A lovely little book and a great way of encouraging reading and play. Read the complete review |
