Lego Duplo.

I really like Lego Duplo bricks for young children aged from 1 ½ yrs old. I think they are one of the better construction bricks. Lego Duplo bricks are available in many sets. Some cars some houses and some basic bricks, as a starter I think these basic bricks are great. The box for this category the 5577 is a large sized box of 65 bricks .

I have just searched the web and discovered its net easy to find. May be Lego has stopped making this exact box, however I have found the Lego shop http://shop.lego.com is selling it for £17.95.

This card box with pictures of Lego bricks on it contains 45 basic standard Duplo bricks. There are bricks with 2 studs, bricks with 4 studs, bricks with 6 studs, bricks with 8 studs and bricks with 12 studs. These bricks come in red, green, orange , yellow light and dark blue.
These bricks are a good size for little hands they are twice the size of standard Lego. They are bright colours and very durable my grandchildren play with their 30+ year old mothers Duplo from her baby days. They are made from plastic and are easy to clean with hot soapy water should they need it.

The first thing your child will probably build is a tower, there are plenty of bricks in this set to make a very tall one, or a wall or a house. Let your child's imagination work, his building may not quite look like the Tagmahal! but he says that is what he has built then so be it.

This box of Duplo bricks would make a good gift for a 2 or 3 year old I think once a child gets to 4 or 5 they want something more challenging. However at 4 and 5 years old they can use these Duplo bricks in conjunction with ordinary Lego but as they do link together.
If you can not find this precise box for little Jane or Johnny then there are plenty other boxes of Duplo bricks.

These basic bricks are ideal to use for early colour recognition and matching . they are great for sorting and for counting . Play alongside your child using the right names for colours and counting his bricks. As well as colour and counting you can extend your child's language by using tall, short. high, low big, small.

Your child will only build with a couple of bricks and for a short time to begin with but soon he will be able to build bigger and better. Duplo bricks are good for your child's concentration. He will sit longer and longer making a construction being able to sit and concentrate is important so encourage him to get into the habit.

If you can not get this set in thye card box then I think the sets in plastic tubs are great . A plastic tub is a better storage option
