~Overview~
This was the very first Lego set I had even before I started playing with Mechano. As a young child I used to love building this lovely lego ship with my parents and then as every child does smash it to bits playing pirates against good guys (Lego soldiers). The ship was a massive hit when it was first launched by Lego and is one of my all time favourite Christmas presents. The ship comes with a Lego man called captain red beard (how original).
~ Building the Barracuda ~
This was quite a challenge especially for someone so young and on most occasions had to get my dad to build parts of the Barracuda as I could not figure out how to tie the strings on the masts of the ship.
Basically in a nutshell the ships base came in two halves (Brown section of Lego). Then you attach all the other relevant sections to the base (easier said than done). The ship did come with instructions so you don't have to guess where certain pieces go.
~ What Lego pieces do you get ~
You get the ship which is itself a classic piece of Lego and belongs in any classic Lego collection. You also get one captain, seven pirates which are required for manning the ship, one sailor to steer the ship and a little brown monkey (no pirate ship would be a pirate ship without one of these!).
~ Other features on board the vessel ~
*Captains Study*
The ship does come with a detailed captain's study which can be accessed by windows if you want to hold the captain ransom whilst having a little Lego war.
*Cannons*
Every pirate ships needs big cannons to blow other ships out of the water and comes with four of these babies.
*Flags*
On the Barracuda you will find four pirate flags all with skull and bones complete. You will find two large flags, one small which sits at the top of the large mast and another small flag which sits on the end of a small rowing boat.
*Anchor*
You get one anchor with the ship which enables your pirates to come ashore and invade lots of Lego islands.
*Treasure Chests*
You only get one of these which the monkey is tasked with looking after this. When I had the ship I had a few more which I stole from other pirate Lego sets and islands.
*Extra boat*
You do get an extra rowing boat which is great for probing missions to mysterious Lego lands or for looking out for other ships (lots of hand pushing required).
*Weaponry*
You do get some weapons with the ship including muskets' and swords which all known pirates have to hold the good guys captive. You will also get some smaller guns for shooting at short range (I know I have a good imagination!).
~Conclusion~
Overall this is a fabulous Lego pirate ship and really good fun for your children and gets them to use their intelligence to try to build it successfully. I failed miserably but im sure there are brighter sparks out there then me.
~My Rating~
5/5
Summary: This will blow you out of the water, and is a must for any avid lego collector!
