A very weak set. This model was released in 1999 as a part of the first group of Star Wars constructions. Variable Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mark I (also known as the Vulture-class droid starfighter or simply as the Vulture Droid) was a battle droid starfighter used in large numbers by the evil Trade Federation during the events shown in "The Phantom Menace" and later by the Separatists in "The Attack of the Clones" and "The Revenge of the Sith". I was a basic light interceptor, like the TIE Fighter from the forces of the Empire. When not in flight, the droid could transform into a walking mode to serve as a ground support.
Unfortunately, all the above is only a lore. This Lego model is too simple, designed without any conception. During the construction it is difficult to guess what are we waiting for. The result is poor and coarse (check the pictures - it looks even worse!). Forget about any significant details or interesting features known from other Lego toys. This (wanna be) Vulture Droid doesn't have ground mode, it cannot even move... I fact it is only an unsophisticated, strange object with Star Wars logo. A disappointing thing. The set contains only 62 pieces and, what you can notice even on the box, includes no minifigures. As you see, the 7111 Droid Fighter set is only for obdurate Star Wars fans. Anyway, the versatile battle droid concept still has potential. You better try the 7660 Naboo N-1 Starfighter and Vulture Droid set with a modified, upgraded Droid Fighter to realise how good this model could be.
