Advantages: Fun Set, Good Minifigures

Disadvantages: Stickers, Bit Pricy

One of the new 2009 additions to the Lego catalogue is this 4WD with Horse Trailer set. The RRP is £12.99 and Amazon have it for £12.72 at the moment. I thought this was a bit much when I bought this as the box isn't exactly very big, but I've since decided that it isn't such a bad price considering the contents.

The age recommendation for this set is 5 to 12 years. I don't think many 5 year olds could manage to assemble this without assistance, but it's a good age to start playing with this as a built up model. The instructions are easy enough to follow but there really are an awful lot of small fiddly bits involved with this set.

Once built up, the set is really very neat. The four wheel drive is a decent size and it looks really smart too. The horse trailer is big enough for the horse to sit comfortably inside, and there's a hinged trailer half door that flips up too. The horse can sit in the trailer looking out over it as he rides along.

There are also two new minifigures included in this set and it's nice to see someone with fair hair for a change! The bloke has auburnish hair and a beard, definetely a big change from the Lego minifigures from up to a few years ago. There's also a woman with lipstick on and a riding suit and hat included. This set is quite good for both boys and girls I think. Horses are traditionally a "girly theme" but the black 4WD and the figures of each sex make this accessible to all.

The only thing I don't like about this set is that the logos on the trailer are actually stickers. Normally, when you put stickers on Lego sets, there are specific little nooks to put them in. On this set, you have to just make your best guess about where to put them and it always annoys me looking at wonky stickers on toys. I probably am just too pedantic though, I bet most kids won't care!
