Advantages: Fun to assemble, finished product looks good, not expensive

Disadvantages: Not many spares included in the box

I do like Lego (though I am getting a little old..) and was pleased to have gotten this set in my stocking from Santa! This set is from the 'Mars Mission' series brought out by Lego which consists of lots of wonderful space things, but the particular set I got was the MX-11 Astro Fighter. It is set number 7695.

The set consists of an astro fighter and 2 mini figures. The astro fighter is predominately white but has a see-through orange door and some orange bits on the wings. You have to assemble the astro fighter yourself out of lego pieces. The 2 mini figures in the set are a pilot and a green alien. I especially like the alien, he is green and see-through and is quite cute!

The instruction book is very easy to follow and has pictures clearly showing the steps to make your lego. There is not much room for confusion at all. There are no words used in the instruction booklet so it is a good international present for all languages. There are 23 pages in the instruction booklet, but a few of these pages are just adverts for other mars mission sets.

I found the lego easy to assemble and it took me around 20 minutes to make. There are only 56 pieces in the set. There are some small pieces so you should make sure to make the lego on a table or a flat surface as to not lose any of the pieces. There are only two small pieces included as spares in the pack so if you do lose pieces you might have to order them direct from the lego website. There are stickers included in the lego to stick on the tail and the top of the astro fighter.

You can move the wings on the astro fighter up and down so that you can have them in different positions, and the door on the top of the astro fighter also lifts up and down so you can put the pilot in or take him out.

I find the astro fighter to be sturdy and well put together. I think it would be able to be played with without falling apart.

The finished astro fighter looks very cool. It is not especially big, around 20cm, but this is one of the smaller lego kits in the mars mission series. You can buy the sets in a range of different sizes and prices.

The age on the box is from 6-12 (though I think it should be 6+!) I would agree with this age since there are quite a few little pieces in the set and even a 6 year old might need a little bit of help assembling the astro fighter.

I found this set online for £3.99 so it is not very expensive compared to some of the Lego sets and I think it is good value for money.

This is a really nice little set from Lego. I don't have any other of the Mars Mission Lego, but I don't think you need to add any other of the Lego sets to make the astro fighter fun. It is easy to assemble and looks cool. Recommended!

Summary: A fun little lego kit!

I agree with marymoose. My OH always wants to play with our nephews' lego.
