Lego 8402 City: Sports Car
by tinkers22
I have a deal with my son; if he behaves himself and goes to school all week he will get a magazine if he gets three "wow" sheets he get Lego. This is his recent choice.
** The Product **
This product is aimed at children aged 5-12. Item consists of a red convertible sports car, Lego man (with hair), ... telephone and tree.
** The Packaging **
This product comes in a cardboard box which has a picture of the finished model on the front and back. The graphic is colourful and the box makes the product easy to wrap etc, if giving as a gift.
** The Instructions **
The instructions come in the form of a small booklet and is inside the box. The booklet contains 20 pages of step by step, easy to follow instructions.
** The finished model **
Looks exactly as the picture on the box and is great to add to Lego city collection or to play with on its own.
** Price and Availability **
I purchased this item from Tesco for £6.87, Lego products do vary in terms of stock depending n which retailer you go to. If you have trouble finding this item in any toy shop or supermarket then you may find it easier and cheaper purchasing online at www.lego.com for £6.99 or from amazon etc.
** Overall Opinion **
Sometimes I find Lego products great value for money and other times I feel robbed, on this occasion it's a little bit of both, I think the price is reasonable as it is a nice product although the fact that it comes in a box can be quite deceptive in relation to size.
My son loved it and that was the main thing and it was refreshing to be able to sit back and watch him build the model for a change.
At the end of the day you will either pay for it or you wont, if your child collects Lego then you will know that most of the items are expensive but that they do get played with often. Lego never really loses its value so I like to think of it as an investment.
Overall it's a fun product that your Lego loving child will enjoy. Read the complete review |

Lego 7239 City: Fire Truck
by Kelly1981
My six year old son was bought this set for his birthday last September by a relative. I suggested this product as I had bought him the Police truck and he already had the Police helicopter from the Lego City range.
I found the box a little strange because there was no definite opening place. Each end was glued so I had to ... prise it open which damaged the box, meaning I couldn't reuse it even if I wanted to which is a shame. Inside there were 3 numbered plastic bags, each with their own instruction books and a smaller bag containing any tiny pieces.
I started with bag 1 which was the main truck itself. As with all the booklets, the photo of the piece you are making is on the front and then each page has a step by step guide until you have the finished article. The same can be said for bag 2, which had the add on section that the ladders attach to and bag three had the trailer and boat in.
My son hasn't quite got to grips with building these kits himself yet so we sat together for around 30 minutes until it was all completed. It all came together really well and I have to say how good and step by step the instructions were. There was a couple of times I put a piece on the wrong way and it was easy enough to go back a couple of steps and re-do it.
The finished article looks really good; I'm amazed at how much detail there is, each little brick fits together perfectly to form the shape it's supposed to replicate and it really does look like a fire truck. I particularly like the wind up hose that is long enough to reach the top of the ladders when at full height with the fireman holding onto it.
My son started playing with this straight away and along with his other products from the range we have a sort of emergency service station in the living room. This piece in particular is quite sturdy and robust. The only problem we have found is with the ladder; it's only clipped on and when you try to slot your Lego man into the lift it tends to fall off, so we always take off the ladder first to attach him.
A word of warning with these kits: The first product we had was the Police helicopter. After my partner made it up the box and booklets went in the bin. A couple of weeks later it got dropped on the tiled kitchen floor and smashed. Now nothing broke but my engineering skills aren't great and it's never looked quite right since. I now keep all the booklets in a little tub along with any spare parts. I am impressed that each kit comes with extras of the really little things like reflectors, handcuffs and bricks because they are the most likely to get lost.
This kit was bought from Asda for just under £9.00. I think this is great value for money as it is easy to assemble, you can spend time with your children whilst making it and playing with it, its durable because if it breaks apart none of the components actually break, its great fun to play with and very realistic.
I have bought a couple of things from this range for my sons friends as presents and they have always been gratefully received. My local Asda is a reasonable size and there is always two or three of the under £10.00 sets available so you don't have to spend time going into town which is great when you have a busy schedule. Lego 7741 City: Police Helicopter
by Cuth1974
I bought this for our 2 year old son/4 year old daughter. Although slightly younger than the recommended age for this, they are keen on "little lego" rather than Duplo and love the police range.
It's a fairly solid item, with the most commonly detaching part being the base section, but easily repaired, as with all ... Lego. It's a sleek design, and far better than the clunkier Lego models I used to make do with as a kid. It is a little convoluted to get the mini-figure in and out of the cockpit, with the whole roof having to be taken off.
The rotors are great, solid, don't detach too easily (a plus) and can be folded up, and the kids love the 2 little storage boxes on either side, which contain sets of handcuffs.
There's a small spotlight on the front and a camera on either side. It's great for the kids, who love role playing with the Lego police truck they also have, which comes with a "baddie" to chase and put away in the back.
It was just about right for kids to assemble - my four year old daughter loved following the instructions and it took her about 30 minutes, during which she was totally engrossed.
A great addition to a growing lego collection. Read the complete review |
