Lego 5646 Duplo: Farm Nursery
by nfrerichs
--Introduction--
My daughter received a lot of new Duplo pieces for het 2nd birthday, one of them was this box with farm-animals and a real farmer. As she has played with it a lot last week, its about time mum wrote a review about this Duplo box.
--About DUPLO--
DUPLO is a brand name and part of the ... famous LEGO company. As LEGO products contain many small parts that can easily make your child sufficate, it was decided in 1969 that a new product was needed to also give younger children the oppertunity to built with the colorfull blocks. So DUPLO was introduced. DUPLO blocks are bigger than LEGO but do have the same colors which are blue, red, green, yellow and black. The bricks can be eaily clicked onto each other, and children can build whatever they want and use their imagination to the fullest. Duplo has a wide range of products besides these boxes with basic blocks. There even are Hello Kitty Duplo product for sale, as well as complete Duplo Zoo's and Duplo trainstations.
--Some general information--
-Brand; Duplo (by Lego)
-Type; 5646
-Age; 2-5 years
-Price; 8,99 Pounds
---What's in the box---This box contains 4 Duplo animal pieces; a sheep, piglet, cat and a horse. Besides those pieces there is also a farmer added to the box. Of course just like in every Duplo box, some basic pieces can be found inside as well. In this box you'll find 2 groen pieces, a yellow one and a dark green brick. The pieces are all wrapped in little plastic bags that you can tear open quite easily. Also, a little book is inside, showing some creative ideas about what can be built with this Duplo collection.
---The collection---The farm-collection can be expanded, it is possible to buy a chicken-cage, some extra animals, an entire shed and of course a farming-truck. I guess that is what makes Duplo so much fun, the fact that you can make so many different creations once you've collected some basic bricks and basic Duplo dolls. All of the animals that can be found in this box, can be clicked onto a basic Duplo brick or building plate and it is also possible to click the farmer onto the back of the animals. Except for the cat, which I think is logical as you do not want to crash a little cute cat in real life...
The little farmer can stand straight up but a kid can also click the legs into a sitting position. In this sitting position the farmer can be used to click onto the animals' backs.
---My final opinion---As I also like to play with Duplo when my daughter is playing with it, I have had a close look on what she really likes about this farm nursery. I guess anything with animals will do as a toy for my kid, but I noticed she loves the fact the animals can be clicked onto each other (creating a major animal tower) as well as clicking the farmer on the back of the sheep (poor sheep!). The pieces are all of good quality and the animals look really detailled. I do find this box a bit high priced, but as a present it is great to get. A nice addition to you basic Duplo collection I have to say! Read the complete review |

Lego 5603 Duplo: Legoville Fire Chief
by nfrerichs
--Introduction--
As my daughter has celebrated her 2nd birthday recently, our place has been flooded with new toys and especially with new Duplo toys. This fire chief and his car were one of the presents she got from one of my friends. She has already played a lot with this Duplo toy, so about time I wrote a review about ... it!
--About DUPLO--
DUPLO is a brand name and part of the famous LEGO company. --The box--
This Duplo toy is in a small cardboard box and on the front of the box it is clearly shown what is inside the box. When you buy this box with Duplo, you'll get a fireman, a little axe, a red car (which you do have to put together, but doing that is easy), and a Duplo brick with a drawing on it. Besides that there is also a little orange flame inside of the box. On the front of this Duplo box you can read for what ages this toy is made (1,5-5 years) althought I personally think the little axe is a bit too small for kids under two. With the risk of chewing or eating the little axe, you might want to consider to not give the axe to your child to play with untill its older. All the Duplo parts are sealed in plastic and the plastic can be torn open easily. The serie-number of the toy can also be found on the box.
--The toy--
My daughter loves little cars an she loves Duplo, so the red Duplo car is a magical toy in her eyes. The wheels of the car can be clicked onto the car-frame easily but this does need to be done by a parent. The little fireman can be clicked into the drivers seat of the car and you can also click any other Duplo character into the drivers seat. The little flame that Duplo has added to this box can be clicked on any Duplo piece. The axe itself cannot be clicked on a regular Duplo piece but it can be clicked into the firemans' hand. The toys are all made of firm material as are all Duplo pieces/toys I have bought for my daughter in the past. This box is a small part of the entire fire-station series that Duplo has produced.
--My opinion--Although I think Duplo toys are pretty expensive, my daughter loves to get it as a present (and so does her mum, it saves me money). I like Duplo because it is made of firm material and my daughter can make all sorts of buildings or create fun situations with it. I guess this little fire chief is the start-signal for saving up for more fire-fighter toys from Duplo! Read the complete review |

Lego 5632 Duplo: Animal Care
by jillycat
Last year for Christmas I bought my 2 year old his first set of Duplo. We bought him a large bucket of bricks but I also wanted to buy him a little stocking filler to add to these basic bricks. The animal care set seemed to fit this bill.
The set comprises of a Duplo person with a brown zoo outfit, a green square brick and a ... red flower. The animal for this set is a small orange tiger with a raised paw.
My son has had lots of enjoyment from this little set. The brick have just been added to the large bucket of bricks that he has and adds to his overall brick building abilities. The flower has however being used to add to is imaginative play with this set and in the gardens of houses that he builds. He has also used the flower as a candle on top of a birthday cake he has built with his bricks and I actually think this small bricks sparks his imagination beautifully as he can use it to become something totally different which for me is the beauty of Duplo.
The person in this set is a little bit on the feminine side due to the pinkness of the lips I think despite its short hair cut. She has been used to not only feed the tiger cub but to drive a Duplo car, cash after a Duplo bus or even to go swimming with some Duplo ray fish. My son likes the way the Duplo character can be fixed to bricks and base plates in both the standing and sitting position and this gives him more opportunities to use the person in a creative way.
The tiger cub is possibly the bit used the least from this set as he seems to confine its use to either creating a zoo. Or to be used with his Early Learning Centre happy land zoo and vet set. The tiger fits in well with these other toys and is often seen on the vets shop couch being examined or playing with the lions from the zoo. I would have liked the tiger's leg to be able to be moved up and down rather than remain fixed in position. This is because I feel this restriction in the movement means he is used less than it would be other wise as a crocodile from another Duplo set that has a mouth that opens is used much more by my son.
The overall beauty of Duplo in my opinion is how well it lends itself to being used for creative play as my son has developed more in his creative play over the year this set has been used more and more. The chucky well designed pieces fit well in to his little hands and help him develop his fine motor skills.
Duplo I personally find to be a very well made toy and all the plastic pieces in this set still appear to bright and cheerful with no signs of damage. In fact my son plays with some Duplo pieces that my brother and I had when we were younger so I do think it stands the test of time.
Overall
*********
I would definitely recommend this small Duplo set at around £6 for the set it makes great stocking filler or a toy to be given to a toddler for a birthday present by a friend as it isn't too larger but it does allow them to develop and use their imagination in lots of ways.
