Lego Star Wars Mini Figure Rebel Commando
by benlepensive
Yes, he looks like the kind of man who would be doing army training at your local boot camp. Probably called John. Rebel Commandos were two for a penny, popping up in the film 'Return Of The Jedi.' They helped defeat the Empire on the forest moon of Endor. You can identify them thanks to their green camouflage gear, which allows them to ... hide away in the bushes.
A figure was made by Kenner in the early eighties, quite a good figure too with a great suit and stern looking face. Hasbro followed the act with an updated figure many years later. Now Lego have got in on the act and made their very own Lego Commando. He is a pretty good adaption of the Commando from the films. The green suit is intact and has some very good articulation on the chest area. I love his military gear and is has been illustrated really well.
Care has also been taken to get his helmet spot on with a good shape and fit. It even has those dangling bits at the side where the strap is supposed to be. His face is stern again and he has a brown beard. I am not sure if there was a bearded commando, but nonetheless this adds to his character and makes him unique facially.
He comes with a blaster which he can grip in his claw like mits. Standing at about an inch in height, he is in line with all Lego figures. Price wise, expect to pay a few pounds for him, though as he is quite rare, prices do seem to be hovering at the higher end of the scale. Worth getting for Star Wars purists and Lego collectors though. Read the complete review |

Lego Star Wars Mini Figure Chief Chirpa Ewok
by benlepensive
Chief Chirpa is the moody looking leader of the Ewok pack. I always recall wondering why he looked so darned miserable in 'Return Of The Jedi.' He sits there om his throne barking orders to Teebo and co and expects jobs to be done for him. He also looks overweight! Despite my criticisms, he is one of the better Ewoks and can easily be ... picked out in the Ewok crowd.
If you go back the eighties, a toy was made of Chirpa by Kenner. It was about two inches in height and was a faithful adaption of the screen Chirpa. Years later, Lego have had a bash at making their own version. He's not so bad actually. His fur has come out a bit grey looking and should have been more grey/brown, but this does not matter too much. His head gear is shaped nicely and they have managed to capture his scowl well too. His downturned mouth looks great and his eyes look fed up!
As with most Lego pieces, you can move his hands and legs, so you can seat him down or bend him over. Not that impressed with his paws, they look like claws, but then they do allow him to grip a massive spear which is way too big for him. I'm surprised he does not fall over with the sheer size of it! You could use the weapon to pron another Ewok with though.
Prices vary for this chap, but a fair price would be around the four pound mark. As he is quite rare, prices do seem to be hovering a few pounds more than that, which is dear for a figure bare on an inch in height. A nice Lego extra but not a crucial Star Wars purchase. Read the complete review |

Lego Star Wars: Silver Stormtrooper Magnet
by benlepensive
Now this is desirable little item. Mainly because silver stormtroopers don't really exist. I am sure that I have never seen one in any of the films. This limited edition magnet is a rare fellow and that could be why the price is close to nine pounds. Quite a lot to pay for a figure that stands about an inch in height.
What you ... are paying for though is the privilege of owning a silver stormtrooper and not a white one. The silver has been carried off with aplomb. An expensive chrome looking effect makes him glisten and it catches the light if you hold it at the right angle. There is a splendid sheen to it, which you will want to run your finger along and savour.
The helmet has been crafted very well with good articulation on the eyes and mouthpiece. For such a small model, the detail is strong and it gives it lift. The body could have done with more detailing on the torso section, but they have done the belt area quite well, which has a neat little design to it.
The stormtropper comes with his own blaster which is about the size of the body, so he might have a job carrying it! The weapon is sturdy though and looks the part. As this is a magnet, you can attach him to a fridge and be reminded of Star Wars everytime you get a drink. I think this is a lovely item, though I do feel the price could have a few pounds shaved off. You could also use him in a game of Lego, if you get bored of watching him static as a magnet. A must for Star Wars purists and a possible cute birthday present idea. Read the complete review |
