Aaah Lego: childhood memories personified; I love it!
There are two great things about Lego. Firstly, it encourages creativity, because there are no 'rules'. The pieces are so applicable to anything that you can get a big batch and make a car, a house, a robot or whatever. It's really fun to get a big box of it together and just make stuff!
The second great thing about Lego is the way it is re-usable. You make one thing and then you break it up and use it again. I mean, we've got boxes of lego here that are from OUR childhood twenty years ago, and now our kids have them. The reason is its so strong, durable and re-usable. There's pretty much no way to ruin it which means it's very accessible for kids of all ages.
The bad thing about Lego is the price. It can cost so much that it becomes a VERY expensive hobby. Especially the sets, where you get all the pieces to make a pre-designed set, can cost £50 a time! My advice is to try and buy a second-hand bunch of basic lego, whack it all in a box and give it to your kids.
You have to be careful with younger ones as it's easy to swallow, so duplo is better for babies.
All in all, Lego is great! It's one of those toys that keeps going for years and years. It's also something that develops with you - the older and better you get at it, the more you can do with it. I don't think it ever gets to the point where you would say "I am now too old for Lego" - you just get making more impressive stuff.
All in all, Lego is a great toy!
