      Disadvantages

A great kit to own, if only to sit on the mantelpiece to look at

I received this as a Christmas present from my family, which takes me back a few years, as I'm much older now that when I used to get Lego sets. I'm not sure on price, but I think you can pick them up for around £80 in places such as Amazon.

The size of the box alone lets you know that this is a big set, but it also reminds you of how iconic the image of a campervan really is. The size of the model is shown by the fact that there are two instruction booklets. This is the first Lego model I've ever had that has more than one!

Building took me about 5 hours (with a couple of breaks - it was Christmas day after all) but was very addictive, as you could clearly see with each step the van taking shape. Having built many Lego sets in the past this was something that didn't phase me, and I was actually disappointed when it was all built as there was nothing for me left to do!

Once built this is very much an impressive set. All original features have been included, such as the pop-top, bench that folds into a bed, even the kitchen sink. It really does look as though a lot of attention has gone in to designing this in order to keep it as close to the original design as possible. This stretches to features such as a lava lamp, a flower and even a 'Make Lego not war' t-shirt hanging in the back.

There are a couple of areas that do bring the model down. Firstly, the side doors open outwards to allow access into the van, however unless you close them perfectly they do tend to catch on each other. Second, although there is a steering wheel, it is not connected to the front axle, so you can only really go straight. Finally, if you open the engine cover (found under the boot lid) there is a replica engine, although again this is not connected to anything and is just for show. These last two are minor points, and more something you would expect of a Technics set.

In summary this is a great set, the extent of which is shown by a recent visitor to my house not even knowing that it was a even a Lego set, they thought it was just a replica model. It was a pleasure to build, and I'm looking forward to moving house so I have to take it apart and rebuild it again.
