For my son's birthday my friend bought him the Lego creator 3 in 1 transport truck set which my son was delighted with as he loves to build with Lego and is really good at it. This is my review of the product.
The Lego creator transport truck comes in a tough cardboard box which has large illustrations on both sides showing what you are able to make with this set. You are told that the set is a three in one set and so you obviously have three options to what you can make using the pieces included. I like the fact that these are shown in nice colour on the front of the box as it makes it easy for the builder to choose what they want to build. The box tells us that the set is suitable for children aged from 7-12.
Inside the box there is the Lego which is packed in to a plastic bag but one which is easily opened and two instruction booklets. In this set you can build the transporter truck with a helicopter, a transporter truck with a small boat or a transporter truck and small car and so each of these options are covered in the instructions. The truck and helicopter uses the most pieces and so this has its own booklet where as the other two are contained in just one book. My son decided to build the transporter truck with helicopter as he thought that looked the coolest!
As always I do encourage my son to lay all of the Lego out before he begins building because I think it makes more sense to have the pieces sorted in to colour and shape and such like so that you can easily find them when you need them. My son always moans as he does this but he knows that ultimately it makes the whole process easier for him and as he is seven now he doesn't really like me interfering when he is making his creations and so I am allowed to help sort the pieces but that is as far as it goes!
He set about following the instructions for the construction and first had to build the helicopter. I say it every time I do a Lego review but as always I was very impressed at how easy the instructions were for my son to follow. At the end of the day this is a toy which is intended for use by a child and so I do think that the instructions should be simple, step by step and easy to follow and Lego never let me down on this front. My son is able to work out which pieces he needs from looking at the colour and the number of raised dots on a piece for example and is more than able to complete the construction of a set independently. Once he had finished the helicopter he moved on to the transport truck and trailer part and again he was able to do this completely independently. It took my son around an hour to build the complete thing which I think is a reasonable amount of time for a child to spend on an activity such as this.
The completed transport truck and helicopter are actually sitting on my TV unit currently as my son likes to leave his Lego on display when he isn't playing with it! I have to say I do think it looks quite nice as the transport truck is predominantly blue and grey with flashes of orange or yellow whilst the helicopter is mainly yellow and black and so compliments it nicely. There is lots of detail on the two creations and it is nice to look at. My son does play with them and sometimes one of the helicopter blades will fall off but this is easily rectified and par for course with a product such as this one I think. I like how you can actually play with Lego creations when they are built providing you are careful and this is often not the case with cheaper imitation products as the bricks don't seem to hold together in the same way as Lego does.
At the moment my son is happy with his creation and doesn't want to dismantle it to make one of the other two options available to him. I do like how he is able to re use this set should he want to and make something different and so of course we have kept the two instruction manuals and should he decide to dismantle his truck and helicopter we would be able to store the pieces in a freezer bag with the instruction booklets.
The set costs £14.99 currently on amazon and I think that it is a great price for the set as it does have various options for a child to build something and then take it apart and build something else as and when they should wish to. I am sure that the majority of Lego loving little boys would love this set and I would certainly recommend it.
Thank you for reading my review!
