Advantages: nice set, good mini figures, easy for child to build

Disadvantages: none for us

My son loves Lego and will quite happily spend hours creating his own items with it but he also really likes the sets in which you are given something specific to build and so as he is a huge Harry Potter fan I bought him the forbidden forest Lego set for Christmas.

The forbidden forest is one of the smaller Lego Harry Potter sets to be honest and it costs £10.49 from Amazon which includes free super saver delivery. The set comes in a cardboard box which has pictures of the set completed on the front as well as pictures of some of the main cast of the Harry Potter films so that you are aware it links to the Harry Potter franchise. You are told on the front of the box that this set is suitable for children aged six to twelve years of age which is obviously down to the small parts and the instructions you need to follow when building the set.

Inside the box is all of the Lego required to build the forbidden forest as well as some mini figures too. With this set you actually receive a Harry Potter, Hagrid, Voldemort and Narcissa Malfoy figures which is a nice selection to receive for a small set I feel as if you look on Amazon some of the figures are selling for ridiculous amounts of money-Hagrid for example is being sold by one seller for £12.00 just on his own! The Lego is sealed in a plastic bag so it is all together safely but I do think it is important before you begin to do a quick check of all of the pieces so you know they are there. My son and I always put all of the pieces on the floor in to separate colours so they are easy to find as we need them for building.

The instructions on how to build the forbidden forest are very clear which I find to be the case with all Lego sets such as this one to be honest. For each step there is a diagram as well as a small section at the top illustrating which pieces of Lego you will need for that stage and so it is quite simple to follow and it is something that my son often likes to do on his own, especially on a smaller set such as this one. I sat and watched my son build the forbidden forest set just in case he did get stuck at any point and need my help but he was fine building it himself and he took a great deal of pride in that fact. My son is six and so I think the age guidelines on the product are pretty accurate in all honesty.

The forbidden forest, once built, is a small piece of kit which is basically a tree surrounded by a few mushrooms and such like. To the tree Lord Voldemort has tied Hagrid in a bid to lure Harry to the forest and try and defeat him once and for all. My son has had some real fun playing with this kit and because he also has the Lego Hogwarts set as well he is able to place them together and integrate the two together using different characters in both of the sets. The set holds together remarkably well really considering the play it has had though my son does realise that as it is made out of Lego it would be easy to break and so he does not play rough with it at all. I would of course advise keeping the instructions so if it is dropped or something that you are able to put it back together with minimal fuss.

I think this is a really nice addition to any Harry Potter fans Lego as it goes well with the other set my own yet is fully playable on its own as it comes with a good range of figures and small accessories such as a spider, snake and wands. I would certainly recommend the set and plan on purchasing more Harry Potter themed Lego for my son's birthday in May.

Thank you for reading my review!

Summary: A good small set
