There are many droids in Star Wars, from the camp C3PO, to R5D4...then we have bounty hunter droids like IG88 and medical droids like 21B. It might seem that they are just a set of numbers, but the droids play an important role in the films. Every so often, a slightly less exciting droid crops up and here is such an example. The Security Droid is not widely discussed amongst fans. Possibly because he is quite a dull chap and barely in the films! He was fortunate enough to be turned into an action figure though.
Lego continue to surprise me with some really odd figure choices, but for a fan, this is such a good thing. Having the unusual figures is much more of a draw than owning yet another Luke or Vader. I always liked the odd ones, even at the Kenner stage of toys in the eighties.
This chap is an inch or so in height and is designed to be used in Lego sets. He has a cylinder for his body and a traffic light face at the top. Discussing his looks is not going to be easy because he is so basic! The toy has been made well and is vastly different from all other Lego figures, purely because he does not have the standard Lego man shape. The colours are accurate though and the red light glows slightly in the dark which is cool.
There is movement available with the toy which will enhance play value, but I have to question what play scenarios children will get from this droid. It seems he has been designed for die hard collectors. If I had been at the board meeting and had been coming up with characters that kids would like, this would not have been one of them! Despite this, I like the toy and as a collector he is thrilling. The figures can be bought online from auction sites and online toy stores, so expect to pay about two pounds for this quirky droid.
