I recently went to a childrens story themed party, and seeing as I did not already have a suitable outfit ( I do seem to keep them stocked up lol) I hit the internet to find something I could wear to the party. After much searching, I came across the Fever Alice Costume.
Fever is the "sexy" range of adult costumes from Smiffys, who are well known as costume makers for all kinds of fancy dress outfits. I have worn many of their costumes, so I have no qualms what so ever when it comes to ordering from them, although I have learnt to order a size smaller than you think you need as they have quite big sizes.
The Alice costume is based on Alice from Alice in Wonderland, although I didn't quite see who it was meant to be until I looked at the websites description of the outfit. The outfit is a dress and a pair of racing checked stocking/long stocks. The bottom of the dress has suspenders attached so you can hold the socks up, but these are only on the front of the dress.
The dress is blue and white, with some black bodice lacing on the front. There is a tutu style netting under the skirt part of the dress, which makes the dress quite "poofy" and if you have big hips, this is not a good idea of a dress as it will make them look even bigger. The frill detailing on the front of the dress is just above the lace up detail, and the same sort of material and design is used for the "sleeves" which are just strips of material that sit half way down the upper arm.
The dress is actually quite short, which is something I have come to expect of Fever costumes, although this is one of the longer ones I have had from the range. It comes just below my bum, but I still make sure I wear a small pair of shorts underneath just to keep my modesty, especially if I am going to be drinking at the parties I am dressing up for. I do not drink very often but when I do it gets messy, so it is best to be covered.
The stockings/socks are made from a tight style material, and are very stretchy. They are patterned with a black and white racer check, and they are very comfortable. I find they stayed in place quite well, and I didn't even use the suspenders to hold them up the second time I wore this outfit to a party. They kept my feet very warm, as well as my legs, which is a plus when wearing a dress as short as this one.
I found the dress to be very comfortable, and I have worn it twice since I bought it. I have since sold the dress on eBay as I found I did not like the way it made my hips look even bigger than they already are. I am pretty sure my hips do not need any help looking like child bearing hips!! The dress and stockings are both machine washable, but you can not tumble dry the dress, only the stockings.
You can buy this outfit on www.allfancydress.com for the low price of £23, which I think is great value for an outfit like this. If you can find this in a local fancy dress or party store, I recommend trying it on first as the sizes are a bit odd at times and you may not be able to get the right size the first time from a website.
I give this outfit a 4 out of 5 stars, due to the extra hip adding that no curved woman really needs! Recommended.
