Vaseline Lip Therapy Petroleum Jelly Pocket Size
by milmol7
This handy sized tin of Vaseline is a handbag essential, and also must-pack item for my holidays... and it's pretty effective too. The tin is just 5cm across and 1.5 cm deep so it takes up no space at all in your pocket, handbag, or in a pocket in your car.
The tin lid fits snugly on, tight enough that I have never had it ... come off unexpectedly, yet they have managed to get the design so that it's still really easy to get off. This is particularly important especially if you're on holiday and your hands are sweaty, or greasy from suncream. It's not screwed on, it just has a very slight resistance against being slid off, a very clever design.
Inside there is 20g of the familiar vaseline. There is only one ingredient - Petrolatum, so I'm not sure what the significance of the "lip therapy" tag is - I guess simply because of its handbag-friendly design. In fact, lip therapy is not my primary use for this product, for me its an essential for my feet on the rare occasions when I'm wearing heels, or - again, on holiday - sandals. A little dollop of this vaseline under my feet and around my heel works a miracle to prevent sore feet or rubbing shoes. As I don't wear heels often, it means I really do rely on this to help me through the ordeal (!) on a night out. I apply it before I put the shoes on and also take it with me. Obviously it's not a miracle cure against shoes hurting but I am 100% convinced that it helps, and sometimes I've reapplied it later in the night if I start to feel shoes rubbing.
That's not to undermine the lip-therapy element of the product, which is obviously how its main marketing strategy. Because I always have a tin with me, whether at work, out in the evening, or on holiday, I have used it often when I've felt my lips getting dry. Obviously, the sun on holiday increases the likelihood of this problem arising. Dry/cracked lips are not something I particularly suffer badly with, but like everyone it's something that I want to avoid, so as I always have a tin in my handbag and another one in my work bag, it means that at the first signs of dryness or tightening, wherever I am, I always have some treatment and relief to hand.
I genuinely think of this as a handbag essential. The only downside I have ever had is when I was on holiday in particularly hot weather once - I got the tin out to use it and it was almost runny! I still used it, it wasn't past that point, but it made it a really unpleasant experience. My bag had been in direct, hot sunlight though, and fortunately, this isn't a problem we encounter much in the UK!
I see that this product is listed at £1.67 above, but I'm sure I paid about £1 the last time I bought one. Either way, that might seem expensive for this tiny tin, it but it goes a long way, and the benefits of its handiness and effectiveness are well worth that in my opinion. Read the complete review |

Vaseline Lip Therapy Petroleum Jelly Pocket Size
by Beccky
Vaseline is one of those handbag essentials that I always seem to have. As you'll probably already know Vaseline is a petroleum jelly product, in proper terms it is a semi-solid mixture of hydro-carbons. Originally Vaseline was marketed as a medical product for use on cuts, burns and minor injuries, however studies have show than it has ... no medicinal effect nor is it absorbed by the body. However, a verified medicinal use for Vaseline is to prevent moisture loss in the skin.
I always keep a small tin of Vaseline in my bag, or somewhere handy, and use it as a lip balm. I tend to get very dry lips when outside and have found Vaseline to be one product which really does make a difference. Although my lips don't absorb the Vaseline as such it creates a good barrier over them and stops them from becoming chapped and irritated or from losing moisture. I have also found it very useful to apply on dry skin, especially around my nose and cheeks when walking in very cold winds. It stops the wind from whipping against my dry skin and gives a barrier to prevent moisture loss.
Petroleum jelly is a light colour, it is greasy to touch and lingers on your skin. If you happen to taste any from your lips it has a subtle flavour and isn't too offensive. There are other varieties available including Aloe Vera and cocoa butter amongst others. I however tend to use this original Vaseline. I tend to buy 32g tins of Vaseline which are pocket size and easy to put into a bag. These cost around £1.50. There are an assortment of sizes available, including much larger tubs if you would like to have a large supply. I find that a small tin will last me many months, so it's great value for money.
Just a word of warning though, Vaseline does tend to soften when it's warmer so if it's a hot day or the tin has been in your pocket it may be much softer than normal and comes out of it's tin far easier. The tines are very well sealed though, mine has been through the washing machine and survived with no traces of water in it!
For such a reasonable price, for a cupboard staple I would recommend every household has a tin of Vaseline handy for chapped lips and dry skin. 5/5 for me as I can't fault it. Read the complete review |
