Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub
by Nik-Nac
Lush lip scrubs are small pots of castor sugar mixed with jojoba oil. This is then combined with lovely flavouring and colouring agents. This scrub is preservative free and suitable for vegans.
The sugar granules are pretty large and do a lovely job of buffing the lips and getting rid of dead skin cells.
The jojoba oil helps ... to moisturise the lips. Though on it's own it does not do a good enough job. You should also moisturise with some lip balm.
The flavours are what make the product yummy (just as well they are edible huh?!) This bubblegum flavour smells, and I imagine tastes like, Snow Fairy soap - only less...soapy? If you are unfamiliar with this scent it's kind of sweet candy floss mixed with pear and a hint of bubblegum. Those of you without a sweet tooth may find this is just too sickly. I love it. I am not ashamed to admit that sometimes if I'm feeling in need of something sweet and there are no chocolate bars to hand, I hit this little baby up. It leaves my lips lovely and soft to boot. Kill two birds with one stone, eh?
The lip scrubs also come in Popcorn and Mint Julips flavours. There is also a chocolate lip scrub called Sweet Lips, however this is currently unavailable online - I'm not sure about in store.
The colourings in the bubblegum flavour of lip scrub give the product a stunning bright pink hue. Very girly indeed.
The packaging itself is alright. It comes in a small, sturdy 25g pot. It has a black lid with the name and description of the product on. Then there is a label on the pot with ingredients and instructions on how to use the scrub. On the bottom is information about who made the product (thanks Rob!) and a use by date, My use by date is a year and 2 months after the 'made on' date. So there is plenty of shelf life with this product.
The texture is, of course, grainy. Great for scrubbing the lips, but not too harsh.
My only problem with the texture is that when I apply the sugar onto my lips I lose about a third of it and it falls onto my clothing. However this is easily brushed off and doesn't bother me too much. You only need to apply a small amount anyway.
It's really easy to use, basically you just rub the sugar onto your lips, I do it in small circular motions for about 30 seconds, then you can lick it off. The licking it off is my favourite part, but some people find licking dead skin from their lips disgusting (I can't imagine why!)
It can easily be washed off but then you won't get the lovely bubblegum flavour, which is a pity.
Afterwards just apply your favourite lipbalm for a soft, smooth pout. This is a much better base for applying lipstick to, of course.
I adore this product, if you can't tell.
You can pick it up from Lush for £5.25.
I apply mine about twice a day, when I remember. And I think that's pretty excessive, but it lasts me a good few months.
Well worth it if you ask me, and good value for money since it lasts so long. Read the complete review |

Lush Pow Wow Lip Scrub
by zombieflesh
I have managed to overcome my Lush addiction - oh yes, it can be done! That said, I do still receive lovely Lush gifts sometimes from friends who are aware of my past obsession. One gift I received previously is this Pow Wow Lip Scrub, which was released as a limited edition seasonal item and is currently unavailable for purchase. ...
Product description: "Our festive lip scrub to make sure that you are ready for any mistletoe action.
As you start to rub this on your lips the popping candy in this scrub makes using this an event. You'll get the snap, crackle and pop effect as soon as you get going.
Then, whilst you're enjoying the sound effects, you can feel the organic jojoba oil, rose hip oil and argan oil smooth and soften the lips. There is goji berry powder in here too, because it is so nutritious. But because this is our party season scrub, Helen's put ginseng root powder and caffeine powder in here to keep you going all night."
This lip scrub comes in a small but heavy glass jar with a screw top lid and contains 25g of product. I love the look of this lip scrub as the acid green colour of it really catches the eye and makes it look fun. Inside, the lip scrub itself is made of sugar particles and pieces of popping candy, which again ups the fun factor! I love popping candy and thought it was neat to have it included in a beauty product. I'm pretty convinced that the popping candy serves no practical purpose and is just there for a bit of a twist on Lush's regular sugar lip scrubs. The scrub is infused with lime oil which gives it a lovely sweet citrus scent.
The only bad thing about this lip scrub is that it is very messy to apply. To use this I dip my fingertip into the pot so that some of the scrub adheres to my skin, and then I'll rub my fingertip over my lips back and forth until it has worked in properly. The bits of candy and sugar can fall off and drop away which is a bit of a pain, but I've taken to using this when in the bath now to avoid having to clear up any messy bits. I've used Lush's sugar lip scrubs before and notice that this Pow Wow version tends to dry out quite quickly. It does look like the scrub has gone all hard and crumbly inside the pot, but it is still usable and gives excellent results as soon as you start applying it to the skin, so even though it might look like it's gone past its best it just takes a little extra care in applying it as the initial dryness makes it even messier.
I don't tend to use this type of product very frequently, and it has lasted me for absolutely ages because only a small amount is needed each time. I have not tested it on chapped skin but I imagine this is best avoided as the popping candy might sting! I generally use this when my lips are being a bit problematic, such as when I've dared to wear lipstick without first applying a lip balm, which then makes my lips go dry and flaky. I make sure to remove any make-up first and rub onto my bare skin. A quick rub of this lip scrub creates an interesting feeling. The sugar granules work to exfoliate the skin and the popping candy starts to fizz away which is a fun sensation. The scrub is packed full of nourishing oils such as jojoba, rose hip and argan oil, and I can really feel the effect this has as it is highly moisturising and leaves my lips feeling beautifully soft and cared for. As the sugar and candy pieces dissolve away all of the oils start soaking into my skin, which again can be quite messy but I keep rubbing the oils in and then wipe away any residue with a flannel.
I think this lip scrub is a really fun little product and it is really effective for repairing dry and flaky skin. I use this whenever my lips need an intensive treatment and it has always worked really well. I love that this is such a unique and fun product that also gives excellent results.
