Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Balm
Advantages: A little different to the norm, fruity & zingy, softens lips, handy tube
Disadvantages: A bit too much taste/scent for regular use, not moisturising enough for me
I actually won one of these after entering an online competition so I was excited about giving it a try as I'm a sucker for freebies! Despite being a Vaseline girl at heart, I like having other lip balms for less frequent use to be a little more special or just for a change, and this one fits the bill at being a bit different. It may be rather scented for regular use, but it softens lips and gives you a big of 'zing'!
Blistex is a very popular brand with a decent range of products, putting them up there as one of the experts in lip care. Their Raspberry Lemonade Blast is a newer product on the shelves and stands out for it's more novel appeal, setting itself apart from the more generic balms out there.
This is described as having a 'protecting and tantalising fruit-flavoured formula' to moisturise and refresh lips. It does this through a combination of coconut oil (to moisturise), jojoba (to condition skin) and vitamin antioxidants C & E (to protect). I'm quite glad that that's how far the science goes with this; there's no other fancy names and gimmicks to try to real us in, there's just a few simple, well-known ingredients that are combined to work well together to provide healthy, soft lips.
I really like the packaging of this as it's a small lipbalm in a dark red tube, and the label contrasts in a blue colour, with the Blistex brand name clearly visible on the front along with a small image of a lemon and some raspberries to highlight the flavour. It comes in a larger packet on a piece of cardboard with a yellow design, so it stands out on the shelf as being quite funky, modern and refreshing. It's the standard design with a pull off lid, whereby you twist at the bottom to get the balm to rise.
The balm itself is white in colour and goes on lips quite smoothly without dragging. I noticed that it does seem to nourish and moisturise instantly quite well, but as I'm a huge Vaseline user and lover, it still doesn't provide the same level of relief from dry lips or the same amount of moisturisation. Nonetheless, it does the job and the scent makes it feel that little bit more special than a regular Original lip balm.
This has quite a strong scent that's sweet because of the lemon, and slightly feminine and fruity because of the raspberry, but the combination of the two means they're not easily discernible, not to me at least. For a lipbalm, this may be a bit much for some as you do get a slight taste from it, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend for frequent use, or use when about to eat perhaps. The lemonade element does give this a bit of a kick or zing, not to the point where it tingles, unlike some lip balms, but it does do something for my mood slightly. I find it quite fun to use, making me feel that bit more fresh and awake and active. It's strange what a lip balm can do to a girl! Or guy, as I'm not being sexist here!
Would I recommend? For something a little different, that's fruity and has a more novel, lively appeal, then it's worth a try. It does what it suggests by making lips soft and adding some 'zing', it's easy to apply and comes in a handy pocket-sized tube. Unfortunately, it's not one I would use regularly as it doesn't provide enough, or long-lasting enough, moisturisation given that I'm used to Vaseline, and it's a little too strong scented and flavoured for use on every occasion.
