Advantages: Smell, price, great effects on lips, handy sized tube
I've got a bit of an obsession with all things beauty related and one product that I'm loving at the minute is the range of Burt's Bees lip balms. I first came across these around six months ago now.
I have a tendancy to go a bit crazy when I like something and since discovering this range of lip balms I have tried almost all of the different scents and I have a little stash of them in my makeup draw. There are a range of yummy scents available including peppermint, mango and quite a few more, all of which smell absolutely delicious and not at all artificial. I first came across the honey scented lip balm last year and I have re-purchased this scent several times as it smells amazing and like all of the Burt's Bees lip balms, it's incredibly good quality and 100% natural. The honey scented lip balm, like all of the Burt's Bees lip balms retails at £3.69 for 4.25 grams of product, which I think is a very reasonable price for a completely natural lip balm and compared to what Lush charge for their lip balms, this is an absolute bargain! Availability wise, the lip balm can be purchased from a range of stores including Boots and Debenhams.
A range of websites including Amazon sell it too and it can also be purchased from the official Burt's Bees website. The lip balm comes in a little yellow tube which is very similar to the other Burt's Bees lip balm tubes. The tube has red writing which says the brand and product name and the ingredients is listed on the back of the tube. Although the tubes in this range of lip balms are all almost identical in appearence, the lids are different colours to represent which flavour/scent the lip balm is - this ones lid is yellow. The tube is made of plastic and it's a handy size. This is very compact and lightweight so it is ideal for taking out and about with me in my clutch or handbag and I prefer this packaging to the tins of lip balm as it is more hygienic. Like all lip balm tubes this has a little twiddly mechanism which when twisted pushes the lip balm out of the tube - I'm not sure what this is called but I'm sure that you will know what I mean! Burt's Bees state on their website that this lip balm is a natural lip balm which moisturises and nourishes lips. They describe it as being a 'sweet treat for the lips' due to the real honey which is used in the ingredients.
Speaking of ingredients, this is full of natural oils and extracts including beeswax, shea butter, almond oil, cocoa butter and coconut oil. All of these are incredibly moisturising and are great for keeping the lips smooth, nourished and moisturised. Another ingredient is of course honey. This soothes and softens the lips and it is an excellent natural moisturiser. Burt's Bees do not test their products on animals which I think is worth mentioning, and although the lip balms are natural, they are not suitable for Vegans due to the honey and lanolin that they contain. The lip balm itself is obviously quite waxy in texture and it is much harder than vaseline is. The lip balm has a smooth, rounded tip which makes applcation easy as it glides along the lips. I do find that I have to warm this up a little by rubbing it against my hand/skin to melt it a bit as it can drag a little otherwise. The lip balm leaves my lips feeling noticeably hydrated, instantly softer and much healthier and smoothe in appearence. It does not leave the lips glossy, nor does it provide a noticeable shine.
The lip balm isn't heavy or sticky at all and it leaves no residue or whiteness behind. It does leave my lips feeling slightly oily but this feeling subsides after a few minutes. I usually apply it 3-4 times a day and the effects last for a good few hours. This really helps with dry or cracked lips and it does a great job at protecting them in the colder weather, too - I wore this pretty much daily last winter and I definitely think that it made a difference as my lips didn't crack/peel at all. Smell wise, this smells amazing! It smells just like a jar of honey; rich, sweet and almost good enough to eat. The scent is quite feminine in my opinion. The taste is pleasant; very waxy with a subtle sweetness. The smell and slight flavour linger for around 5 minutes. Overall, I highly reccommend this lip balm as it's nourishing, moisturising, reasonably priced and it smells amazing! 5/5 stars.
