Carmex Cherry Tube
Advantages: Smell, taste, hydrating
Disadvantages: A little expensive in my opinion
I popped into Superdrug the other week and there were so many bargains that I went a bit crazy and picked up a huge amount of things. One of the bargains that I managed to get was this Carmex Cherry lip balm, which was reduced from £2.54 to £1.27. This lip balm is really popular - it even states on the Superdrug website that 130 of these are sold every minute (worldwide), and I can see why. I had never used it before as I was always put off by the price, but now it will definetly be one of my regular purchases as it's brill, although I do think it's a bit expensive at the full RRP. This is sold from a huge variety of shops including Boots, and it's also available online via sites such as Amazon and ASOS. Prices vary but i'd say that the average price is £2.50-£3.
The packaging for this lip balm is very simple, it comes in a 10 gram squeezey tube. The tube is attatched to a recycable piece of cardboard. The cardboard has a see-through window in which the tube can be seen. Once the tube is free of the cardboard packaging you can tell that it is squeezable. It's quite an eye catching lip balm as it's yellow in colour with a red Carmex logo on it and a red lid. It also has a picture of 2 cherries which represents that it is cherry scented. I do like the packaging as it's nice and compact, it can easily fit in my makeup bag, handbag or pocket. The only thing is, when I put it in my handbag I have to make sure there's nothing heavy in there or else it'll get squished and explode everywhere due to the design of the tube. The lid is also quite awkward as it's not very easy to grip - I had to use my teeth to open it the first time I used it.
This lip balm smells gorgeous. It smells like cherry scented sweets and you can smell it even when it's not open, which means that it makes my makeup bag/handbag smell gorgeous. The smell is definetly noticeable and very pleasant. A man would not like this (to use on his own lips), well, I doubt it anyway as it's such a sweet, candy-like smell. The smell tones down when it's actually on my lips but an extremely subtle cherry scent remains. The texture of the lip balm is very gel-like, which I really like as it's not as messy as the liquid lip balms and it's easier to spread. It's very lightweight and feels nice on my lips, giving them lots of moisture and making them feel soft and healthy. When it's on my lips I definetly get a whiff of mint mixed in with the cherry smell and it makes my lips feel quite 'cool' and tingly if you get what I mean, it is hard to describe. Taste wise it doesn't taste sweet or like cherry at all, it tastes pretty much of nothing but with a very slight tone of peppermint with no nasty chemical undertone taste.
The lip balm absorbs into my lips really quickly, it doesn't leave a thin layer of residue and is not sticky or greasy, so it's great to use as a lipstick base to avoid my lipstick drying out my lips. It also smoothens my lips, making cracks less noticeable which also makes it brilliant as a lipstick base. It feels really nice on my lips so I can't fault it, it is not the kind of lip balm which feels really cheap and heavy and it feels natural on my lips. It doesn't make my lips swell or feel like they're burning or anything like that, so it is good for anyone with sensetive lips. The lip balm's also moisturizing and makes my lips feel soft and hydrated. The lip balm also acts as a sunscreen for your lips in the warmer weather as it contains SP 15. Overall I really like this lip balm. It smells good, doesn't taste too bad and does a good job in hydrating my lips. I give it 4/5 stars because the price is a slight let down considering that you only get 10 grams of product which doesn't last long with daily use, but i'd reccomend it.
Summary: A new favourite of mine
