Carmex Original Lip Balm
Advantages: Cheap, does a fab job
Lip balm isn't something that I usually buy but after going without a pot of lip balm on an aeroplane around 3 years ago I knew that I'd never make the same mistake again my lips were so dry and cracked and red that it took me ages to solve the problem! Last year I took a holiday to Spain and one of the first holiday items that I checked off my list was lip balm.
My lip balm of choice was the Carmex original lip balm. The reason for my selection was because I wanted a lip balm that was branded and the brand was one in which I had trust as I didn't want history to repeat itself. I reasoned with myself that I'd rather pay extra for a lip balm and it keep my lips healthy than pay next to nothing for a lip balm that did very little.
The lip balm came in a small, round yellow pot much like the Vaseline pots. The sturdy pots ensure that the lip balm stays clean and fresh and the compact nature means that it fits perfectly into handbags, pockets and make up bags.
Inside the pots the lip balm is hard but you can gather a generous amount using your finger and rubbing the surface or using a brush. The substance of the lip balm is sticky, smooth and also quite thick but once you apply it on the lips it doesn't looked 'caked on' or out of place.
In fact, on the lips it looks quite subtle and just gives a slight sheen to the lips. It is also possible to apply the lip balm over coloured lipstick which again adds added shine to the lips.
During my 4 hour long flight I applied the lip balm twice each time adding a generous amount to ensure that the lip balm would act efficiently. The lip balm does seem to stay on for a long period of time but I reapplied due to past experiences.
The smell of the lip balm is hard to describe as the scent isn't strong nor is it distinctive so there is no way that it could be unpleasant, if you do happen to taste the lip gloss then again this isn't unpleasant but doesn't have a nice taste to it either.
The lip balm leaves my lips smooth and free from cracks or cold sores it also moisturises the lips and hydrates them which is particularly useful especially on aeroplanes!
I use the lip balm almost every day and have had 3 pots in the past 3 years. The pots contain 7g of lip balm in total and costs £2.69 from Boots. Given that the lip balm lasts for around 12 months in total £2.69 is a real bargain!
