Clinique Chubby Stick Lip Balm
Advantages: Lovely natural colour. Plenty of shades to suit all tastes
Disadvantages: Waxy smell
I first tried one of Clinique's chubby sticks after being tempted by their recent advertising campaign. It is marketed as a "lip treatment with sheer colour that relieves dry cracked lips and provides immediate moisturisation".
The Clinique chubby stick is essentially like a giant crayon which rolls up. It has a silver base and lid and the stick itself is the colour of the product you have chosen. The colour I purchased was the 'woppin' watermelon' a lovely shade of pink. When I bought this item there were many colours to choose from and I have just checked the Clinique website to find out that they have introduced even MORE new colours and there are now a total of 16 shades to choose from!
The stick itself is a waxy crayon-like balm. It applies smoothly and evenly. I find the colour to be quite subtle, it makes my lips a nice shade of pink. The balm leaves your lips smooth and shiny. I find that the colour is really easy to apply and goes on evenly. The woppin watermelon shade that I am reviewing leaves your lips quite a natural shade of pink. It is nothing too daring or bright. When applied I have found that the colour lasts around 3-4 hours before needing reapplied. It wears off gradually and doesn't come off too easily when eating or drinking.
I love the design of this product. Unlike standard lip pencils it doesn't require any sharpening. The stick is small enough to fit in your purse, bag or even your pocket! The packaging is sturdy enough that the product itself won't get damaged.
This product is advertised as moisturising for your lips. I feel that it moisturises a small amount, moreso than a lipstick or lipgloss would but not as much as an actual lip balm. For this reason I feel the product falls down a little as it is advertised as a balm. I certainly would not use it to treat dry lips! One good thing is that unlike many lipglosses, this isn't sticky on your lips.
One thing that I dislike about this product is the smell. While the smell isn't unpleasant, I find a slight waxy, crayon-like odour comes from it. I think the product would be nicer if it was scented slightly.
Generally speaking I am not much of a lip colour wearer, but have always wanted to experiment a bit more with lip colours and am so glad I came across this product. I would recommend it to those who like a natural look on their lips.
Summary: Great for those who like a natural look
