Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment looks like a lip balm but promises to be much more. Part of the repairwear range, it targets lines and wrinkles around your lips and acts as a moisturiser.
It does not come cheap at around £21 (at Boots) but it is definitely not just a lip balm. I wear it twice a day, and I use a normal balm at other times.
I apply it in the moring before going out, sometimes with a dab of lipstick on top, sometimes on its own. It leaves my lips moist and with a glittery shine, which makes them look volumised. But the effect is quite different from that of a lip gloss, more subtle.
I then apply it again before I go to sleep, not just on the lips but also around them to allow the "repairwear effect" to prevent fine lines around the mouth.
Does it work? Well, so far this is the best lip-product I have tried. It's easy to apply, it lasts quite a while and I like the effect. Lips feel moist and seem more resistent to cold weather. I used to have drier lips but with this product they got much better. I hope that using it regularly it will help preventing lines too.
This lip care treatment is part of Clinique's Repairwear range which is an anti-aging range.
It works to intensely moisture the lips as well as repair the look of wrinkles that emerge and to boost the lips natural collagen production which gives them a plumper looking effect. Not only does it do these great 3 things but it also protects the lips against environmental damage e.g. cold winds which cause chapped lips.
I have tried this product only a couple of times and love it. My mum has been using it for several years now and she cannot walk out the house without it in her handbag. She just continually says how much she loves having a colourless moist feeling on her lips. She hates wearing lip glosses so I know it doesn't feel too much like a lip gloss and it certainly isn't sticky.
It is fragrance free and for all skin types. It doesn't taste disgusting either (but I wouldn't recommend that you eat it!)
The main con I can think of is that it shouldn't be left out in the sun or left on a sunny window sill because it will melt.
And perhaps the only other major con is the price, it retails at £20.00 which sounds extremely expensive I know! But it does so much more than most lip treatment creams and glosses.
***Who would I recommend this product for***
I would certainly recommend it for someone who either has extremely chapped lips or for someone who has started using anti-aging moisturisers.
This lip treatment occasionally comes in great value sets which include Clinique's repairwear moisturisers and in buying this set you basically get the lip treatment free which is a massive bonus.
Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment is a specialist lip treatment for more mature skin. You can get it from the usual places that stock Clinique, including department stores, duty frees, and the Clinique website, and it costs a massive £20. I personally could never justify spending that much on what is essentially a lip balm, but I received this as a gift so was happy to use it.
Clinique say that this is a smooth, gel-based lip treatment that helps repair the look of wrinkles on and around lips, boosts natural collagen production, provides immediate and sustained antioxidant protection against the environment, and replenishes the natural moisture barrier so lips stay soft and hydrated. It should be used twice daily, AM and PM.
The packaging is very classy looking, a shiny silver lipstick style tube with things like 'clinique', 'fragrance free formula', and 'allergy tested' printed on it in a matt silver, but the words are all broken up so it doesn't read in proper sentences or anything, it's just for effect. Pull off the lid and you're greeted by a lipstick style twist up stick, turn the bottom to move the lip balm up and down within the tube.
The lip balm itself has a smooth creamy texture, I wouldn't say it was gel-like, but it is slightly lighter and less greasy than most other lip balms. It glides effortlessly onto the lips leaving a nice protective layer behind. It gives the lips a subtle sheen without feeling sticky or heavy. It moisturises nicely and makes my lips feel really soft to the touch. You don't need to use a lot each time, but it does seem to run out very quickly.
Over time this has improved the condition of my lips, they're definitely smoother and softer than they had been previously. I do not, however, believe that it has made any improvement to lines and wrinkles. In fairness I don't have many lines on or around my lips anyway, but this really hasn't made any difference to the appearance of the ones I do have.
Whilst it's nice to know that my lips have antioxidant protection, this lip balm doesn't have any sun protection, which I would expect to automatically be included in anything this expensive. All in all, whilst I love the way this makes my lips feel, it doesn't really do what it claims to do, and I really don't think it's worth the huge price tag so I can't recommend it.
